not sure if this has been answered before ....

I have installed the channel and have a config file on the root of the SD card which sets stream to the SMB share.

The share is listed when I open the channel and when I click on it, it says "initialising network .... network initialised". I then choose it again but all that happens is the cursor goes to the top entry in the list ??

make sure your folder is shared, "network shared" full control or whatever, makes sure your router assigned IP is correct, make sure the path in config file is correct, etc. if it still doesn't work, i don't know sorry.
If none of that helps, try taking your firewall spyware programs off etc, if not that it must be your router, that's all ic an think of, if none of that helps i don't know, iv'e helped many people get it working easily, through this and PM

just a wild guess but did you make sure to include the trailing "/" in the config file. I read somewhere it was necessary.
might be a "\", don't have my WII in front of me.

yeah thats right, i allready have examples in my little tutorial in previous pages,
it should look like this......

# MPlayerWii configuration file
# This file needs to be in the ROOT FOLDER of your SD card!

# Set the following setting to 1 to enable the PAL Widescreen
# ratio fix
palwsfix = 1

# Here is a SMB share entry
# Since SMB browsing isn't yet implemented, you have to append the
# name of a file present on the share

# For example, this entry will connect on the machine at
# 192.168.69.131 as the user "user" with the password "password"
# on the share called "write" and will play the file "a.avi"

# The format is:
# smb://[user]:[password]@[ip address]/[folder]/[file]

stream = smb://DJ [email protected]/Films/

Don't see an option to "network shared". I should point out that the smb share is on a NAS drive rather than on my PC if that makes a difference.

Will check to see if the stream path has a trailing /

right click the FOLDER, sharing & security click Share This Folder On The Network, APPLY
The above is how XP sp3 shows it, if you haven't shared a folder before it may question you if you know what youre doing click here, click that etc, then it brings you to the above what i just gave an example of!
Now try
smile.gif

yeah check make sure you have that Slash

Now iv'e covered everything Totally, if you cant get it working, it's something wrong with your router or something blocking the connection.
Any look?

The folder I am trying to share doesn't have "sharing & security" on it's right click. Pretty sure it's because it's a folder on a NAS drive.

there is no username and password required to connect to the share, does that mean I should be using:

smb://:@ipaddress.....

yeah try that, maybe it only shows the "share & security"when you right click any drive/folder if you have "shared" something before, strange i never had to!!

QUOTENothing under properties either, just 'General' 'DFS' and 'Customise'
Forget it then, sorry. cant you use a different drive?

If no-one can get it to work with all the examples and instructions iv'e mentioned, you may aswell forget it, it's all there in black & white.

Shame - will move the file to the PC and see if that makes any difference.

I see GeexBox autoscans uPnP shares (which my NAS supports) maybe I'll try that.

yeah try that, i cant get geexbox to work with samba, its complicated
frown.gif
bit sow geexbox though

It's only a test - and if it works even better.

Are you using alpha4 or alpha2 ? Reading elsewhere, it was suggested to use alpha2 (as alpha4 crashes during load). I got alpha2 and followed the HBC instructions to copy it to the root of the SD card but when I open HBC there is nothing there. Upon examination of the folders there is no boot/elf file either in alpha2 release

use geexbox, alpha 3...

alpha 4 only works with 1gb and under SD cards.."usually" works wit my Kingston 1gig, and not with my basic 2gig...

you need to edit the network file with a "certain editor" otherwise it will cause an improper file, and geexbox will give you an error, that's where i was going wrong.
So i couldn't be assed with it.. it may have better SMB than mplayerwii so good look,
