Hello people of GBAtemp,

This project is already underway at http://earthboundcentral.com/forum/viewtop...p?f=3&t=526

Come and help out if you can! We have nearly fully translated the meteorite scene, and most PSI descriptions are translated as well. You can try out the latest version of the project, too. We could really use some help finding some control codes (especially the GOTO code) and such, so if you have some minimal experience ROM hacking, please join the team.

And even if you don't have any experience/don't want to learn how to ROM hack and still wish to help, you can become a beta tester and give us useful bug reports!

Thanks,
pranavmeno (Hacking/Translation)

I have looked through the script of EB and MOTHER 2 and BOY IS IT HELL.

Like, I don't even know what they were thinking!

Things in the script are ALL OVER THE PLACE. It's not like they coded the game to have it in some sort of order, shits just flying everywhere. And the control code is confusing as hell. FInding where verything is directing to is a nightmare.
Don't even tell me. I was translating EB (the SNES one) to Italian, and it was hell

Awesome news. I hope you're going to implement a VFW of some kind (and the rest of the necessary hacking, which is REALLY a lot) and just not keep the game the way is it right now

Unless I'm misreading, there's no actual translation progress, and the fact that people want something translated isn't exactly news.

However if a team is formed and there's actual progress and a basic patch, yeah it'll be front-paged as soon as one of us finds out. My money's on VatoLoco.

Way too much work for a game that already exists and is fully playable on modern hacked console.
1- The US version had retarded localization changes;
2- The SNES version cannot be played on a GBA;
3- People translated MANY games that we knew would be released a few months later in English. This one is Japan-only and will never be released outside of Japan.

I have been busy as HELL with school and hobbies and girlfriend and life and stuff.

I have taken some time out to look through and document control codes and where they point to.

I have gotten through only a small portion of the script and I can only say... boy does this take a while.

Small, small amounts of progress HAVE been made...

I am going to contact the other team on EBC and join them, and get their info.

THIS DREAM IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE!!! IT WILL BE DONE! There are enough people backing even without me I hope I can help at least a little.

Hey, we have a VWF implemented and all the M2 control codes mapped. Currently, however, the VWF is not for public consumption. If you want to join the team, visit the thread and post there saying you'd like to help.

Update: Since my last post, not much more has been done. I have little to show ATM and Have been SO BUSY with life and school and such. Have not joined the EBC Team yet but plan to once I have some more free time. I am sure with the driving force we have and support we can get this done one day.

Wasn't Mother 2 called "Earthbound" in the English speaking world?

It's already been released and has translated dialog.

I think what he meant is that we could take the Earthbound text and not have to manually translate everything from the Mother 2 side.

BUMP, i'm a huge Mother/Earthbound fan too and i'm getting an ez flash 3in1 soon but the SNES emulators kinda suck for the DS so i would love to play the Mother1+2 but Mother 2 fully translated to english like the Earthbound rom, the mother 1 (earthbound zero) game is fully translated so why not Mother 2?

I agree with the OP, it would be AWESOME to have the Mother triology all in english :)

Mother fan for life ^^

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
