Mega Man-inspired roguelike 20XX heads to Nintendo Switch

20XX is an indie game, which hit Steam's early access back in 2014 after a successful Kickstarter, where developer Batterystaple Games worked on it for another 3 years, until it officially released in August 2017 for PC. In 2016, a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version was announced, and later had its launch pushed back to July 10, 2018. Now, as announced by the company, a Nintendo Switch version will also be joining the lineup, launching alongside the PlayStation 4 version on July 10 as well. 20XX's gameplay is that of a mix of the Mega Man X series, with added roguelike elements. It also offers online and local co-op modes, and the console version will come with bonus DLC which lets you play as a third character with unique abilities.

So mighty number 10 but done well sweet. well from what i can see. i get a binding of issac feel from it which means im gonna be sh*tting my pants in frustration when i accidentally get clipped by an enemy attack and have to restart from the begining.

In other words my bread and butter and what gives me purpose in life but with a megamanish skin and more stuff.

@Chary Why is the headline "Heads to Nintendo switch" When you show us a trailer for Playstation system?
I'd rather post a PS gameplay video sooner and have the news out rather than wait for an official Nintendo one, as only screenshots were given in the press release.

aren't roguelike games more topdown view in a labyrinth with enemies moving when you move?
Maybe they meant procedurally generated levels? To me it's not what rogue means, they could have used "procedurally generate level".

I'll make a plateformer shooter and call it a sideview doomlike to click sell bait.

You don't know what you are talking about. That's not what determines a roguelike...What about Spelunky, Heart & Slash, and FTL?

A roguelike is typically a game that features procedurally generated levels and perma-death.

Played it. Nothing like megaman, false advertisement.

Another person who doesn't know what they are talking about. It was inspired by Mega Man and if you can't see that then you must not have played a Mega Man title.

if that's what determines it, and you pass on " dungeon crawl, turn-based gameplay, tile-based graphics,"(wikipedia) then it's one.
I guess I'm just too old and stuck on the old, original, roguelike definition.

wikipedia has another word for spelunky and co which have only permadeath and procedural in common: roguelike-like

Inspired so much that never adopted a single element. Why not to say it's inspired by dungeon keeper as well?

This game is a good game. I've been playing it on steam since it was a early access title. Nice to see it coming to consoles.

Dude, this game has more elements similar to Mega Man than Mighty No 9 had. and if you're thinking about the original Mega Man games on the NES, then you're thinking of the wrong one. this game is more like X than it is the original. and it's close enough for me to enjoy it.

I think we've evolved from that definition honestly. Nobody even knew what roguelikes even were until Spelunky hit the scene. I feel like from a design perspective the two most important pieces of any roguelike are procedurally content generation and perma-death.

Don't feel bad, you're not old, people just make mistakes. Roguelike, Rogue-lite, metroid-vania, often miss used terms that was made trendy by the same people who created it, gamers. What's a rail shooter? A game like gradius or any other space shooter, or a game like Sin & Punishment, or gal gun cause both games have auto scrolling stages that focuses on players aiming at targets and avoiding damage? Can I call Mega man Zero or ZX a metroid vania cause it has a big world all intertwined together with branching paths, or is it the upgrades, and back tracking? Is every legend of zelda game considerd a RPG even though only the second one on nes you gain exp and level up from battles? How come people don't call Castlevania games rpg, most of them you gain levels and exp by fighting.

Don't feel bad cause people misunderstand things, definition of things while is fact and documented somewhere will always depend on the person using it and how they see fit weather if it is politically correct or not, definitions of things change depending on people who use it. You can almost be certain you will find someone saying one thing, go look at a dictionary and because a book says this is the "De-fact-o" term, the person actually used it a new way. Communication is hard enough even with people speaking the same language, people just have to be more understanding. :)

is roguelike what they call adventure/action platformers nowadays? I liked to call them "platforms and shooties", though that never seemed to catch on. And I mean, I guess Zero is a bit of a rogue ;)

generated rooms are a bit hit-or-miss for me. Less of a puzzle and more of a "this room is slightly different than the last time I played". It's fun to say, but I've never found it added too much fun to a game, just RNG...though I suppose that is fun for loads of folks. And permadeath I suppose is more like NES games. Sure you got a few lives, but when you die, you start all over. Same thing I guess.
