    So, I've got an issue.
I have a 5.3.2U Wii U, and I'm simply trying to boot some games. I haven't used this Wii U in a while, so thusly, I haven't downloaded any updates for the games I have.
Now here's the problem. My Wii U says that I can't update games unless I do a system update (which obviously I don't want to do). If you don't want to update the system, the Wii U refuses to boot the game. So, only games without updates are able to boot (NSLU and so on and so forth).

So what do I do? How do I get these games to boot without updating the system?
Thank you in advance for any help!

Ok, interesting. I can boot the game when not connected to the internet, as it gives me an option to. But I need to find someway to update the game without updating the system or hide the fact that these games have updates.

If you have a ip blocking set up, it will attempt to update, but since it cannot download the files, the game will boot just fine, if my memory is good.

I have it set up to block these:
    nus.cdn.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
    nus.cdn.shop.wii.com
    nus.cdn.wup.shop.nintendo.net
    nus.wup.shop.nintendo.net
    nus.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
    c.shop.nintendowifi.net

Seems they're working. I got the red X. It still doesn't throw an error when starting a game.

I tried to sniff the connection of my Wii U at that point, but have yet to get it to work. I'm just not cut out for networking.

OK. I found a slight workaround. I unplugged the router when booting the game and then replugged it when the game is allowed to boot. I can still use TCP Gecko dotnet too, but it sure is a pain.

Surely me and Skeet1983 aren't the only one's having this problem. Are we missing some IPs to block? I'm in kinda a rush because I'm leaving tomorrow to head back to college and this is my friend's Wii U. He's pretty nervous about having to unplug the internet every single time to play a game.
If games with an update are allowed to run for you, could you please respond with what IPs you're blocking? Thank you!

Just a thought: maybe delete internet connection on the Wii U? Would that solve it?

It would. The only problem is that he wants to Wii U Chat and connect to Disney servers for Infinity. I guess he can survive, at least until firmware spoofing becomes available (though I don't even know if that's possible or even being looked into).

So connecting to disney servers works even without an updated Wii U?

Other than that, since the issue is that he's nervous about unplugging the router each time, it's easier to add the connection settings each time he wants to use that one game or Wii u chat.

Not optimal, but better than nothing

Yep. That's what I'll have him do. I've just got to keep an eye out here for any news of firmware spoofing in the future.

You should totally be able to boot the games, even if they require updates or want to connect online, without having to kill your internet connection in between launching. I am on 5.4.0 and for example, when launching Splatoon, which has an update that I don't have on my console, it first tries to connect to online services (fails because I am not on the most recent version) and I decline the system update. The app will then try to download the update (fails because I have update servers blocked), and it then asks if I want to launch the software without the update, which succeeds.

At no point do I have to disable my internet connection to fool the Wii U into not seeing the update, I simply have to decline the connections and start the software anyway without the update. Just wanted to pass this information along for ease of use, cheers! :yaywii:

What update servers have you blocked?

    Somewhere you can never find.
Are you sure you cannot load games? I also have the system update nag whenever I load a game but I am able to play by finding the continue anyway option from the same pop up nag message.

Yeah, maybe I'm just not blocking the right server? I dunno. I don't have the Wii U with me right now.
Whenever it's completely disconnected from the internet, I can continue and load the game. When it is connected, it will only give me the option to system update.

ZombieU asks you if you want to boot the game anyway.
Netflix refuse to boot if you don't update.

It might be a developer's choice.
if we could find how to spoof that choice, that would be good. Even if there's no full firmware or update spoof, having the choice to not update and boot the current version, it would be nice.
