Hacking M3 Sakura and EDGE

I've been thinking about getting my friend an EDGE, so I'm pretty new to it. I've heard that some people use a hacked version of Sakura as their media player with the CycloDS. I have a few questions about this.

1) Does the hacked version of Sakura work on the EDGE?
2) If yes, does it outshine the previous version of Moonshell?
3) What are the peaks/downfalls of both media players?

I'm too used to my M3DS Real and Sakura firmware combination. Playing movies and music right from the GUI is awesome!

2) Yes
3) M3 Sakura has more functions, including sliding to open, and can boot NDS games.

You can boot NDS games, though they end up in a black screen.
