Is it possible to use the DS' wireless capabilities to transfer files between consoles or to a PC, programmatically, in your own homebrew applications? Is there a library? Google is not being much help.

Thanks!
Nothing that is quick nor easy to set up. What exactly are you trying to do?

I want to write an application for the DS that is used in bridge clubs. During the game the players record the score on each hand. This would be written to some file, a text file I guess unless there's another format the DS likes, and either transferred continuously to the PC after each hand, or transferred after the game is over by selecting an option. Or they could be transferred to a single DS (if straight to PC wasn't possible), and the SD card in the flashcart could be put in the computer afterwards. (In a bridge game, multiple tables are in play so it would be super impractical to take the SD card out of every flashcart out of every DS to put in the computer, nobody would go for it)

There are already specialised machines that do this (called BridgeMates and BridgePads) but they are quite expensive and of course the features are static. I can think of lots of good features that would be possible on a DS. They also crash a lot (which really discturbs the game as you have to switch to paper scoring), not sure if I'd be able to improve on that but if I could that would be great of course.

Not to be a douche - but why not writing this as an app (android/iphone).

Then you could actually make some money out of it (if there isn't to many apps doing the same thing already).

How experienced are you with programming? There's a DS homebrew called DSFTP which uses a DS to create an FTP server to transfer files between the DS and a PC. This demonstrates that file transfer is possible. You might get more help on the DS developer IRC: #dsdev on irc.blitzed.org

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
