Right now my Sysnand and Emunand are linked, and I was just wondering, what is better in the long run. Linked or unlinked? I may want to unlink in the future, but I don't want to screw anything up. Advice?

There is nothing major other than the fact that when you install a CIA on a linked emuNAND you will have to unwrap it every-time you enter GW mode.

Besides the unwrapping bs your connection to the internet will be shared. For me this is bad I use go gateway for android to avoid updating my sysnand because last time my.linked emunand actually updated my sysnand

both
using 2 sd cards you can have linked emunand (for whatever reasons you need it to be linked) and unlinked emunand (i use this one for daily use, and have real connection to the internet)

when unlink emunand, make sure that you do system format while in emunand, not sysnand

Mine gave an error when trying to format emunand so I formatted sysnand instead. No purchases on the system so nothing lost.

in my case, i don't want to lose my legit installed eshop games in sysnand
i might be wrong, but i don't see any benefit to format sysnand to unlink emunand. you'll end up with empty sysnand

good for you
unfortunately i have some games purchased from eshop, and when playing those games, rather than using gateway, i usually play it directly from sysnand

Does anyone know which one benefits a system transfer? Or does it not matter?
I've read it's better to have linked for system transfer.

From gateway manual:

"It is best to perform this operation right away after first acquiring your New 3DS system and setting up Gateway3DS, as having an unlinked EmuNAND may complicate the process"

I prefer unlinked because I'm not sure if there are consequences to filling up a real valid eShop account with games you didn't actually purchase. It's probably also detectable via serial, however. so all this might now matter much.

However, I don't see a reason to use linked other than to have your primary Mii be identical on both sysNAND and emuNAND? Are there other reasons? That's the only issue I can think off right now.

With SDF (SaveDataFiler) saves can be imported/exported. It's not the easiest thing to do, it's not terribly difficult, but it does work, at least from 9.2 to 4.x.

There may be some exceptions, however I haven't encountered any yet. It even works with Fantasy Life which had an different kind of save system (for a cart at least).

If you have n3ds and you want to buy something from the eshop (eg by using NTR CFW), I think linked does have the advantage that the purchase will appear in emunand without any extra steps. I haven't tried this though.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
