I had an idea about a year back: To play Pokemon Crystal with several members of a forum I went to, on a single save file. Meaning, after a set time (we used 24 hour shifts) we would send the save file to the next person on the list, and they would continue on with the game. When the save file was in your hands, you could catch anything, name anything whatever you wanted, level up whoever you wanted, teach whatever moves you wanted, and just about the only things you were not allowed to do were REname a Pokemon (to respect the original catcher), release Pokemon, use/sell one of a kind items (except the Master Ball, which could easily be used to sabotage the game by catching junk with it) or kill Pokemon that you can only obtain a limited number of (like Sudowoodo, Suicune, etc).
To lengthen the list of people that would actually get to play the game, I put in place another rule: You can only beat ONE gym during your shift, however you can do everything up to the next gym if you want to, but are not permitted to challenge the leader. Because it was Crystal, this meant that most likely, 16 people would get to play. I also planned on having a chat room with a video feed for all players, when facing the Elite 4, and players would take turns determining what to do next.
Unfortunately, the project never panned out, because lots of players ended up being busy during their turns and it screwed up all the scheduling and ultimately, people lost interest after about 3 turns.
So why am I going on about this?
Because I want to do it again, but this time, with a more dedicated group of people.
Why post it in the DS forum?
Because I was thinking that when Platinum (U) comes out, we could do the same thing with that.
To increase the amount of players, perhaps there will be multiple teams playing, instead of just one set going through the game, since there's less gyms in D/P/P
Or we can just play Crystal.
Oh also, stuff like the Starter and Trainer information gets voted upon before the game begins.
So, would anyone be interested in doing this? I'm not officially setting it up now (unless someone else wanted to), but if there's interest, I'll definitely set it up in the future.
