So can I use this to convert a unlinked profile to a "linked" profile and continue to use all my saves and so on?

No, it injects a whole new profile. You need to backup all your saves, then reinject them afterwards to the new profile.

Alright! Guess I'll research backing up saves and reinjecting them in another profile. Thanks for clearing it up

Backup both with Checkpoint and Edizon.
If you wanna use Edizon to reinject you need the nightly or delete all your old saves from the "account that disappeared".

Gr8 name :) Nice tool.

FWIW, this does not actually delete the save data for any existing profiles. It deletes the profiles themselves and orphans the save games.

The saves for the deleted profiles are still on the NAND, but since they are not tied to an existing profile...
  • The saves cannot be used directly.
  • The saves take up NAND space.
  • Orphaned saves cannot be deleted from the NAND unless ALL saves for ALL profiles for a given game are deleted.
To get around this...
  1. Backup your saves en-masse using Checkpoint.
  2. Delete all save data for every title using the System Menu. (This is tedious.)
  3. Run this NNID injection tool.
  4. Create any additional profiles you need for family. These won't be linked to an NNID. (It would be nice if it added a few profiles, OP.)
  5. Launch each game for each profile. You don't have to get past the Nintendo loading screen. (Horizon preallocates NAND space.) This is needed so that Checkpoint can restore the save to the profile.
  6. Restore your save data using Checkpoint.

Great tip, I did this but boy was it tedious. A few notes to clear things up, I read the entire thread and still didn't fully "get" how this tool does what it does.

This tool doesn't utilize a nnid so no need to worry about sending someone your credentials or anything like that, I'd recommend that you have incognito already enabled. The tool itself after launch has one nnid option and a confirmation prompt and that's it. I believe after it ran, my switch crashed. But it did appear to work.

As mentioned above, this tool will remove your profiles but orphan all profile saves unless you first backup and then remove them from Data Management -> Delete Save Data and remove all saves for each game, depending on your library this can take a good amount of time.

Has anyone figured out how to remove the orphaned profile saves? I mistakenly believed the tool was removing only one profile, so I didn't delete saves from two other profiles and now they appear as ghost entries in Checkpoint but Checkpoint won't delete saves...

+1 for the idea of adding multiple NNID profiles that would be useful. It'd be even better if we could do this without destroying all the profiles and skip leaving a boot logo, but at least we can play some of these games that require NNID check.

Hello just thought I should post and say and I am running SXOS 2.8 and EMU 8.1 and this worked to add an account to my switch. I was not online, and I used Checkpoint to backup all my saves and i removed them before running this.

Only issue I had was when it asked to restart I canceled and backed out of Kefir. This of course errored out my switch and I had to manually shut it down. After restart the new account was there and I was able to get everything back to the way it was.

BTW Thank you for the app and the instructions.

Edit: +1 also on the idea of adding the ability to create multiple accounts.

So if you accidentally forget to remove all your old saves, they still appear under an unknown profile in checkpoint, the profile image is just a black square. If you want to remove them after you've already orphaned them, here's how:

Go back to Delete Save Data and select one of the orphaned games and the option "Delete All Saved Data For This Software", once it's deleted you can check it in checkpoint and you'll now see your orphaned games are one shorter than before. Just repeat this until it's all cleaned up.
If you've already restored your saves you can't delete just the orphaned saves you have to delete all saves for that game, so just backup, delete all and restore.

PSA for those considering using this -
It works as described, but replaces your cfw and payload files with its own and also installs several .nro apps without asking. I was alarmed to reboot to the Kefir splash screen, so I immediately overwrote all cfw and payload files with the latest version of Kosmos. All seems to be back to normal now, with the linked account still working. It would be nice if Kefir had an option to add the linked account ONLY.

How to restore savegames after linked fake account? I've backuped from my older local accounts, but they are gone. Edizon doesn't even open anymore, keeping giving me error screen and reboots the console

I didnt deleted each savegame from sysmenu before applying kefir updater add linked account... But edizon bkps are all on my sd card.
