Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that Kazuo Hirai will be stepping down as Representative Director and Chairman. He will remain on the company board in a part-time capacity.

View Sony Computer Entertainment's new appoints briefing here.

Hirai is still President and CEO of Sony Corporation as a whole, a position he assumed on April 1 of this year. However, his departure from Sony Computer Entertainment's executive branch is notable, as Hirai rose the ranks of Sony through SCE and its international subsidiaries.

seriously? didn't he just get the position ?
that was fast...
Third line Costello lol He's just stepping down as the chairman for SCE (gaming division)
He's a frigging dud. When I first read about him taking up the helms back in April, I thought "Here's a guy that might actually be able to save the Vita."

I imagine he's grinning like Yao Ming with the words "BITCHPLEASE" plastered on his forehead.

He's got to do more than just "save the Vita". He's going to have to restructure and fix Sony as a whole. I think he is the right man for the job though.

okay my bad, why is this even news then?
it's obvious when you become CEO you have to step down from your former position? no?
It's an obvious action, yes. As for why make it news...have no clue, journalists are just weird I guess. After reading the newly appointed executives, there isn't much of a change to warrant this as news.

@ Rock Raiyu

Restructuring of Sony should have started about 5 years ago, at this point their losses are so great they need to completely demolish the foundation of the company and let the building collapse sort of thing. They need to start from scratch, abolish every single division that isn't at least competitive in each market such as computers and portable audio devices where they are flopping hard selling products that are mediocre or not popular. They need to make their TV design and production systems more streamlined so they are more profitable and of better quality so they don't have to keep replacing TV's that are still under warranty with brand new ones because the old ones are less then 3 years old and replacement parts for TV's cost as much as a new TV. Covering TV warranties with replacements does cost them money to their bottom line, fixing their quality control would solve that problem easily.

I don't understand how a company like Sony has gone 5 years without doing any form of proper restructuring. They are a constantly sinking ship and it's not looking good for them to be honest.
