Hacking is there any trick to getting mario kart working on a disk?

every other disk i try works fine but mario kart gives me a disk read error. burnt the same as all the others (same disks, slow speed and tried re-burning)

does this game use the alt dol. method?

Bad dump? It works fine for me...on a NAND backup loaded with SNEEK (cIOSCORP 1.1) as well as on my regular NAND (cIOS rev17, NeoGamma R8 RC5)

it works by usb if i copy the backup disk direct with cfg usb loader ...... but it still wont play via the disk

...... all backups play fine (same brand disks) but i really need to get it playing by disk as the usb drive is not mine

I'd say try and download another copy from the net and burn that one to disk ...

There's no alt.dol needed for MK and good copy's should work just fine on 249 rev17
maybe update NeoGamma to R8 final

elmariachi is right. It's working fine without an alt.dol needed at all.
