I've got Free HDBoot running thanks to some help here. And I want to prepare for my next step. I have the entire NTSC Library backed up to my internal HDDs. It's going to take a 4TB HDD to hold it all.

My questions are:

1. Will the PS2/OPL read a 4TB HDD? I am using a Gamestar HDD adapter if that matters.

2. WinHIIP has a 255 game limit, is there another way to load games to the HDD that circumvents this 255 game limit?

This is a poor solution. PS1 games on a PS2 using OPL will run over emulation, and a poorly made emulator.
It uses an emulator named POPs that where made back in the day by Sony for one particular game and got tweaked by others to run more games. Still far from a good solution.
Actually a small pc would give you a more accurate solution.

If you still want to go the PS2 route you can buy this:
https://www.amazon.com/PS2USB2-0-USB2-0-network-adapter-console-Android/dp/B07H7R23S2

Not avaliable and I can't find it on ebay anymore. I got mine last year.
It will give you an alternative OPL version and it can read FAT32 USB sticks and ISO files without the need for a partition for each game.
Not exactly sure about GUI game limit but since this is making a bridge between it's usb 2.0 and the ethernet connection. It actually has a CI inside that does it.

My take, if I wanted the entire PS1 library would be using a real PS1 console and the PSIO and a 500+GB SD card.
This would fit half the NTSC PS1 library. You can get two.
You would be getting zero lag, no emulation and fast loading.
I have one and recommend it.

I'm talking about the NTSC PS2 Library, I have a chipped PS1 for PS1 games. I would like to get a PSIO in the future but I don't have the soldering skills for it yet. But I'm just curious if theres another way to load games besides WinHIP, if the PS2 will read a 4TB drive that is my only other obstacle.

Perfect, thanks! I'll either have to strip out the dated Madden's/NCAA's/FIFA sports games from the collection or go a two HDD route which is kinda clunky. Good to know I can get around the limit!

Sorry I think I'm sleep.

I've heard the max the PS2 can actually read is 750GB, even using a larger hard drive.
Your best bet would be using a computer server, a raspberry pi can do it, and have several shares over SMB to the PS2 and play your games over LAN.

I wonder who out there has marathon played the 14 annual FIFA's. The last two NTSC versions are mostly found in Latin America.

PS2 pops emulation is crap for PS1.

Your better off getting a stack of Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs, burn the redump sets, and install a new laser from Ebay to use on real PS1 hardware.

Or get a PSIO and use split SD cards. I use a 512gb and 256GB cards to hold my sets i use.

You can use a 2TB on a PS2.

Hello i was wondering is the 2tb limit because of the software or the fat32 format? I only ask this because i have a wii that is modded. I bought external hard drives larger than 2tb and it would not allow larger than 2tb until i bought a western digital hard drive and used the wd fat32 formatter and it let me format a 4tb 1 partition hard drive to the fat32 format. Or is it like the ps3 where the internal format system will only allow the 1tb?

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)

    run h2testw on it
