Came across a special case the other day.

Guy had a wii where the SD and USB slots don't work. A partial lemon from the looks of it. And yes, I'm certain. Disc play fine though.

Looked around the forums quite a bit, and everything seems to point to requiring an SD card to apply any of the softmod hacks. What I need is a disc and/or network only method.

Any chance I overlooked this sort of thing? If not, what are the chances/possibilities of this happening?

Thanks in advance for the thoughtful and helpful responses.

There isn't a hack without SD card. And because (to my knowledge) nobody is looking for one, I doubt it'll happen.

Pure from a theoretical point of view, I have to say both USB and networking are unlikely.

-there are no games that make use of an USB hard disk and the wii has no drivers from itself, so there is no way to even start.
-the network...the only way I can think of would be to spoof nintendo's server so it can trick the wii into thinking there is a firmware update (which contain nothing but the HBC). But while that may theoretically be possible, I HUGELY doubt the idea has any realistic possibility.

So in the end, it's not going to happen soon (read: in the first thousand years). Perhaps send it to nintendo to have the SD card slot fixed first?

EDIT: just noticed you mentioned that the wii has no working USB ports either. That'll make the process even harder, because even if there were such a hack...where would you keep all the homebrew stuff? The internal nand is just 500 megabyte, and any semi-recent wii's cannot play backup disks (unless it has an older DVD-drive...and isn't sent to nintendo).

How are the SD and USB ports not working? Are they broken or just not functioning for some other strange reason? If they are physically broken then I can repair/replace them.

The Wii recognizes no SD card plugged in and USB receives/draws no power. It has apparently been doing that since the owner purchased their Wii. I'm not sure of anything else beyond that. I hadn't come across a case like this before, so I'm a bit stuck. How would you advise going about it to get some more answers?

Thanks for the responses! I suppose now I need to try and figure out what's wrong and how to fix it, if possible.

In theory it's possible to hack your wii using letterbomb, it should be able to install homebrew channel via wii message board. Then you could send the apps to hbc using network.

Yeah but without an SD how will he use letterbomb?

In the past you could install HBC with a homebrew HBC installer disc, it required a Mod-Chip and the trucha bug which was present in older ios's. this isn't possible now.
If he could get hbc installed you could wireless load apps, but i don't see a possible method without a sd-card

HAHA you've been goofed. Don't count me out on necroposting, but now you can use str2hax. You just need to connect to the Internet, that's all you need except for a Wii and Wiimote.
