Pretty sure Wii U discs are stored in a special file system unable to be read by external drives.

They do use the Blu-ray disc format but the file system can only be read on a Wii U, it is possible to dump the disc into ISO format and open it via PC.

WuDump lets you do that https://github.com/FIX94/wudump/releases/latest

There is – to my knowledge – no way dumping the BD-like Wii U discs with standard PC hardware ; which is a shame to be honest.

That is the short answer. My long answer contains more additional questions/speculations than actual answers:

Due to the overall faded interest in optical storage media, it is unlikely somebody knowledgeable and talented will look into this. The expected answer is already multiple times in this thread. "Just download them!" I for myself don't see a problem in downloading stuff while owning the original, but according to the law in many countries, it is still considered piracy (while nobody seems to be able to explain why downloading stuff one payed for harms the developers/publishers).

The cleanest and overall best way is always dumping games yourself (and it is more fun than illegal downloads anyway). I'll just leave the semi-relevant (GC, Wii) links here:
https://www.debugmo.de/2007/07/read-your-dvds-the-raw-way/
https://debugmo.de/2008/11/anatomy-of-an-optical-medium-authentication/
The author emphasized the advantages of an old DVD drive (not everything in one chip) for getting access to the real RAW data (end user has by default no access to DVD RAW data and what is considered RAW for CDs… is already heavily processed data). I can imagine that a standard BD drive is physically able to read Wii U discs, but it simply won't do because the sectors are written differently (just like GC/Wii discs are not normal DVDs, but physically readable with a standard drive). Unfortunately this is just my own speculation with more or less no technical information about the Wii U disc format online.

I've no idea what level of control can be achieved with firmware hacks (search keyword for BD drives is LibreDrive), but the author of MakeMKV and the LibreDrive hack is pretty silent about it. Could be a total nonsense association bringing this up here, since the goal of this hack is getting full speed while ripping and more importantly getting access to AACS 2.0 encrypted sectors, which 4K UHD BD compatible drives won't even read by default (without authentication of a software player like PowerDVD). The processing on sector level is probably already done at this point.
Equally unknown for me is, if there is a theoretical possibility to do something like RawDump and FriiDump did for the DVD-like discs (depends on some debug loophole commands in old IDE DVD-ROM drives).

We are in the unsatisfying situation that there is – by design – no "just read sequentially and deliver the unprocessed data"-command for optical drives.

could u emulate a wii u drive?
Please elaborate what you want to emulate.
An optical drive emulator (ODE) for the Wii U? There was something supposedly in the works long ago (I think it was called Wii U Key) but it turned out to be vaporware. The original drive board is needed at this point (Wii U won't boot to main OS without). I think it would be theoretically possible to replace the actual drive with an emulator connected to the original board.
I guess that won't happen. Why should anybody try when everything an ODE would offer can be already achieved right now without?

Or "emulating" the Wii U drive on PC? Whatever that should mean, it would be more on topic for this thread. As I said above, it would be really nice to have the possibility of reading original Nintendo discs on PC… but I don't see that happening as well.

For CEMU? Why not just download them from somewhere? Here is a great app to do so: https://gbatemp.net/threads/relase-...tform-alternative-to-wii-u-usb-helper.621432/

Make life a bit easier for yourself, eh?
well the pirate life is free its not really for me. atleast any more

I was reffering to emulating games on PC (windows 10 to be exact)
