You could make one on your own with a Raspberry Pi but to me it's not worth, you end paying more in pieces (LCD, battery, 3D printed case etc.) than a tablet. Ultimately, tablet are useless and you very much likely already have a smartphone. If you use a tablet as a pc then you're wrong.

With a raspberry pi or CHIP or other singleboard computer you could, but as 4ur0r said it wouldn't be worth it, it's not worth having a tablet at all imo

You could design your own pcb (done it), print it (not done it), solder everything together, and 3D-print a case. It'll only cost you $5-15,000, and will run about half as well as a low-end tablet.
