Infinix ZERO 30 5G launch event & hands-on impressions
Currently underway is the Venice Film Festival where tech manufacturer Infinix collaborated for a discussion panel. Coinciding with that event, the company behind the budget-friendly gaming smartphone Infinix GT 10 Pro launched their latest flagship device, the Infinix ZERO 30 5G.
I, representing GBAtemp, had the opportunity to attend the event and try the device which boasts a front-facing, 50MP camera capable of shooting 4K video at 60 fps, and a 108MP rear camera. To help provide an idea of the latter’s potentials, most of the pictures featured here were taken with the bespoke phone. Ahead of the launch, Infinix participated in a discussion panel titled "New Image, New Lifestyle. Cinema in the New Media, Capture Your Own Story". The panellists, which included an actress, a filmmaker and a producer, discussed the potentials and challenges relating to smartphone-based filmmaking. Infinix also shared its latest phone’s vlogging capabilities and the opportunity for such camera technology to democratise access to making quality videos.
Later that day, the actual launch of the Infinix ZERO 30 5G took place. As the event coincided with the Venice Film Festival, the venue was movie- and Venetian-themed, with a red carpet, an artistic installation of a “Lens Tunnel” inspired by the new phone’s 4K vlog-ready camera and a “director’s seat” mock up. There was also a dance performance inspired by the Carnival of Venice that preceded the official product launch.
Afterwards, attendees were greeted by an unusual host: a phone assistant. It was indeed Infinix’s GPT-powered Folax took the stage to introduce the speakers (although it was a pre-recorded video of the assistant, rather than having Folax function in real-time). Infinix’s CMO Lake Hu provided a brief summary of the company, and his speech was followed by that of the CEO of Infinix India, Anish Kapoor. The executive unveiled the Infinix ZERO 30 5G to the public and went over the device’s features, and also announced a few other devices in the ZERO lineup from Infinix. These included a 4G model of the ZERO 30 and a laptop, the ZERO BOOK.

Media attendees also had access to the phone which I found to feature a very decent, premium-like build while being relatively affordable at around $339 (with exact pricing varying based on the region). Combined with its slim and lightweight aspects, the Infinix ZERO 30 5G does feel like a flagship device. As for the camera, it’s quite capable, although it can be washed out based on the lighting condition.
However, I couldn’t test its gaming prowess, although Infinix India’s CEO mentioned in his speech that mobile gaming was not overlooked with the chipset used and the phone’s 68W Super Charging support. But as it has practically the same specs as the GT 10 Pro, the ZERO 30 5G’s performance should position itself as a mid-ranger. On the gaming note, I had the chance to chat with Infinix’s CMO Lake Hu. I asked him about the potentials for new gaming smartphones to feature actual physical controls (or what I’ve been clamouring for in all of my gaming smartphone reviews). To my disappointment, he said that’s not what most mobile gamers want, hence this trajectory in the market. But he did mention the inclusion of physical triggers with the Infinix GT 10 Pro, which wasn’t included in unit I reviewed but is a welcome addition that makes the device even more value-for-money. He also mentioned that Infinix will continue producing gaming smartphones, which will likely be under the GT line, and it would be interesting to see if they maintain budget prices but with more capable specs.
The following day, we toured around Venice and also attended a mask-painting workshop. The latter was a very interesting, enjoyable, and even relaxing experience as we got to paint masks that are iconic to Venice. In fact, the whole launch event was very enjoyable as it was great to experience the launch of a budding company’s flagship phone, talk with some of the team behind it and experience Venice during the Venice Film Festival.
