The surprise final reveal from today's Nindies Showcase was for a rather unexpected crossover. Brace Yourself Games, developer of the rhythm game Crypt of the Necrodancer, and Nintendo will be working together to release a new title called Cadence of Hyrule. Link and Zelda will be playable characters in this game, where you will be able to fight classic Legend of Zelda enemies to the beat of some of the series' most memorable songs. Mixing Crypt of the Necrodancer's gameplay with music, characters, and levels from Zelda, Cadence of Hyrule will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch this spring.

I have to wonder how hard this is going to be. Necrodancer is a fantastic game, but goddamn does it get difficult, especially if you want to finish the story. It looks really cool though, and even if it's just a Necrodancer reskin I'd probably still consider buying it, and it's interesting to see Nintendo letting indie devs do something like this.

I liked CotND on Vita and PS4, although I found it harder than expected... I guess a sprite swap and change to the audio is as good a way as any of bringing it to the Switch.

This looks downright adorable. Wasn't interested in Crypt of the Necrodancer, but I definitely will check this out.

There'll likely be a difficulty dialogue box before booting up to the game proper! Kinda excited to play some LoZ tunes on it.

So the leak was true, after all we got a 2D Zelda Spin-Off. Does someone remember where that rumor came from?

The main game is already on Switch! It includes the DLC too, which never made it to the Sony platforms.

It's to match the rhythm based gameplay. You can't really have characters normally walk from space to space, it would take too long. You need a snappy movement to make sure it's easy to stay on the beat, and a hop is the best way to do it. The only real alternatives are straight up teleportation and a very quick slide, and neither of them seem like much of an improvement, especially when you get items or characters that move 2 squares without touching the one they moved over.

I played Zelda from SNES and GBA. A long time ago when I was young adult. He walked a little faster and I liked the way he walked. This is too odd, just saying.

Never played crypt of the necrodancer, but I love the concept and the soundtrack, just not a fan of dungeon crawlers. But this I might have to actually play.
