'Immortals of Aveum' gets new trailer and gameplay details

Developer Ascendant Studios' upcoming game, Immortals of Aveum, is launching next month. Ahead of its release, new gameplay details have been revealed along with a new trailer today:

In Immortals of Aveum™, you play as Jak—an unlikely Magnus whose newfound potential has found him in the midst of the Everwar, human kind’s endless conflict over the control of magic. Now, it’s time for you to learn about everything he can do. Wield your magic with sigils and spells, build your loadout with gear and skill trees, and fight to uncover the secrets of Aveum and save the realms.

Gameplay features of Immortals of Aveum include:

  • Magic: All magic in Aveum can be distilled into three forms: Blue force magic, Red chaos magic, and Green life magic. Each is used in its own ways and functions differently. Though most Magni are only able to control one color of magic, Triarchs are able to harness all three, though they are much rarer because of that. Jak is one such Magnus, allowing him to tap into all three types of magic.
  • Sigils: Sigils allow you to focus and control your magic into powerful attacks. There are unique sigils for each color of magic and three different variations of each sigil within those colors. These variants function differently based on their spell type, rate of fire, damage output, range, and ammo capacity.
  • Strikes: Strike spells are your primary attack and each color of magic has 3 Strike spells to choose from. Combine your Strikes with your Fury and Control spells to create deadly combinations.
  • Furies: Fury Mana is most commonly restored by mana crystals that drop in chests or from enemies during combat, but that’s not your only option. Depending on how you tailor your skill tree progression, you’ll also be able to find other ways to restore this magic resource, such as mana regenerating over time when you’ve run out.
  • Augments: Augments are spells that allow you to do just that. Hover across wide openings, leap across great distances, and restore corrupted parts of the lands as you travel.
  • Control spells: Using Control spells, you’ll be able to slow enemies and objects with Limpets, pull them close with your Lash, and even stun enemies with a precision beam from your Disrupt lens.
  • Dominion spell: As you fight through battles in the Everwar, your ultimate attack, a Dominion spell known as Immolate, will charge up. By combining all three colors of magic, you harness their full power into a beam of pure annihilation. Use it to raze legions of enemies to the ground or to burn through even the strongest of foes.
Find out more about these gameplay features and more in the official blog post lined in the source below. Immortals of Aveum launches on August 22nd on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC (EA App, Steam, and Epic Games Store).

Writing and story seem bad and for some reason they played it way too safe with the spells. Almost all of 'em act just like guns. Kind of nice to look at, but with only that to carry it, it's a wait for Humble/PS+/Game Pass type of deal.

The required specs are pretty high, I wonder how well this is going to run for most people.

For 1440p, it recommends you need a 3080Ti

i will probably buy this for ps5 when its massively discounted on amazon (under 30$) like people said abode they just made the spells be exactly like weapons, blue is basically rifle shot, green is homing shots and red is grenade type of deal.

they could have done much more like an anti gravity spell where evemys would loose footiing and start to levitate around you, or a manetic speel you would attach to an enemy to another enemy or a wall ro something like that, something that a regular weapon couldnt do but yeah its abit of a shame, but seems mindless fun.

Well, they do seem to have other moves besides just shooting in the trailer, like pulling people and slowing people down. Also, we don't know how the other spells will be like. They even have magic based weaknesses and magic enchantments, that typical shooters don't have.

That said, once you get "too sci-fi", it is hard to make a distinction between what a item or weapon can or can't do. Still, I appreciate the magic flavoring and the setting is just different enough, not to feel like your typical fantasy setting.

In general, it is nice to see more magic focused games coming out.
