Wait a minute... didn't shaunj said that posts will merge if they're made within a 24 hour difference?
What happened here? Jeffy made two posts with a 2 hour difference without auto-merging.

There was a configuration issue initially when we reenabled the auto merge. But we've tweaked it so posts should only merge within 24 hours of each other since a recent change.

I've also turned off the notification for merges. Seems a bit unnecessary.

Auto-merging doesn't happen if someone else makes a post in a thread before you make a second post. It only happens if you make multiple posts in a row under 24hrs and nobody else posts in between your posts.
