since firmware update support for 9.x is out yet can the gateway be updated using a pc?

Update what? the FPGA flash or do you mean the launcher?

The support isn't out quite yet however when it is released I believe both the red and blue card should be able to be updated on the PC by dragging and dropping the new firmware onto the sd card (not sure if that was your question?)

I wouldn't risk it. There is a high chance an FPGA update will be necessary, and this is only be possible from gateway mode on 3DS, so on 4.x console.

Hmm.. I'm not so sure about that, PewnyPL. I seem to remember seeing an email somewhere that said that the update wouldn't require a 3DS on firmware 4.x. I can try and find it.

There won't be a need for a lower firmware 3ds to update Gateway. Gateway team has cleared this up and said that you will just need a 9.0-9.2 3ds and the gateway flashcard. Nothing else
