Hello Everybody,

I'm going to purchase a 3DS however I'm rather worried that by the time I get it the firmware will be too high for gateway to work. So I had an idea.
Would it be possible to modify a rom file (e.g. Smash Bro's) to contain a system update for 9.2 instead of using and then playing that game using a Sky3DS to update a firmware version of 5.X+ to 9.2.

I don't really expect this to work but I thought I might as well post this just in case.

Cheers,
Water Bottle

^To expand on the above - because the Sky3DS 'clones' a real cartridge, it cannot run modified roms. Only untouched roms will work.

A Gateway might be able to do this though, in theory.

Sky3DS is useless for any kind of modding.
Get this straight once and for all, people.

Can you be a bit more specific? Do ROMs not include firmware updates when they are run from Sky3DS?

EDIT: Ignore me, I misread the OP. I thought he was asking about using a game that already includes a firmware update.

Aside from the abovementioned - did the OP really just suggest getting a $80 device to update to 9.2 (so you can use a Gateway)?
I mean, unless you just happen to have half a dozen or more kids in the neighbourhood and you all pitch in, this seems to be a rather counterproductive move to begin with.

Hmm...I just got my 3ds and it had...I think 8.0 or something below 9.2. I had to try 3 time on my 3ds xl to update to 9.2 and afterwards I disabled the wifi. This is the US 3DS XL super mario bros 2 edition.

All in all you probably don't need a game to do it. Just go go to your region Nintendo website to confirm the lastest firmware is 9.2 and then go through the systems options to update.

not exactly a long term plan though....i think people are panicking over nothing, i doubt 9.0-9.2 would just be skipped as a on cart update.......i guess give it a little while and something will be released with 9.0-9.2 :D

True, but for the moment people are wanting to update to 9.2 before it is removed from the nintendo site. Saves time on hunting down a game, making the drive, update firmware and roll home.

Offtopic: I just realize that GBATEMP news has not posted up the acccomplishments that Nintendo has one at the Game Awards event. WTH!! Dude developer of the year is big news compared to what Sony and Microsoft system sales are. Its the same damn thing every couple yrs, systems with just better graphics, fuck that we need to do different things with games. If it hadn't been for Nintendo releasing the Wii Sony/Microsoft wouldn't have release there stupid eye toys.
