I'm upgrading to a new 3ds soon and was wondering about compatibility, is it only flash cards that play 3ds games that are being actively blocked with updates? will a regular ds one work? i read something about "ds mode" earlier, does that mean that it basically switches the operating system of the console to just a regular ds, ignoring firmware versions and etc?

oh i've got another question, which would be the best and cheapest to get? if i just wanted to play ds games, that is
I recommend one that runs the wood firmware. I've been using one for years, good cheap and stable. Most will recommend the DSTWO but I don't see the value of emulators and cheats at the cost of less battery life and a much more expensive cartridge.

It was expensive as shit for the time. 2000€ back then were way more than now.

@Xdqwerty, Damn, sorry your parents got divorced. It's good still being in touch with the electronics you used as a kid though.

@Skelletonike, I actually built my first ever desktop PC in 2023. I survived on 600$ laptops and my iPad
    until then lol

Alot of us grew up with what's considered retro now
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
My first pc was a windows 3
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
@K3Nv3, Honestly me too (kind of), the DS and Wii are considered retro today and it feels WEIRD lol
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
eMachine was my first pc I actually with 256mb ram ddr3 I remember when 1gb was $100 back then

  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
@Skelletonike, Damn, pretty cool. Mine was a pre service pack Windows Vista netbook with like 1gb DDR2 ram :)
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:

  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
@Xdqwerty, Oof, nothing to do about that. At least it's working though.

  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
    Yeah, even games
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
I wasn't alive in early 80s obviously but a 128mb ram machine was like 3k alone back then
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
When compared to today's prices. It was cheaper, but the money was worth way more

@Skelletonike, I legitimately thought it was normal that computers crashed like every time you opened the start menu lol. It was when we got the Win7 Vaio that I realized "wait it's not supposed to do that?"
