I tried Google, it takes me to flea market pages, but if its just a flea market why don't people just call it flea markets? makes me think there must be some difference? I been to flea markets but never to something called swap meet.

Swap Meet is just another name for a Flea Market. Calling it such is typically a regional thing.

An extremely good price for an untested PS3 with the accounts still on it, I'd say it's most likely stolen. The thieves probably didn't even steal the cords that came with it.

Good find OP.

Kid got arrested and need to pay for bail/Died/siblings didn't want it anymore and moved out, left it with parents, who also don't want it. Also OP said it did come with the AC cable. If I wasn't around or didn't know shit about computers, my parents would go and just sell it with everything still on it, most likely. Think parents know how to operate game consoles and do factory resets on them?

Just curious what is a swap meet? Is it different from a flea market?
In a flea market, vendors pay for their space; in a swap meet, spaces are generally given out on a first come first served basis.
So how does it feel to have a stolen PS3? =P
Nah, the owner was the kid's mom. She told me that he pretty much stopped playing it and left it behind when he moved out.

The site of the swap meet is a church parking lot that is tied in with local sober living services and pretty much hosted by AA; everyone there is legit (and admit to having shady pasts.) She offered me the composite cables, but I said I didn't need them.

I was snooping around the account messages and one of the last ones (about a year ago) mentions going to a funeral for a friend. I suspect the family was neck deep in alcohol/drug use and had a momentary lapse of reasoning when a younger friend/family member passed. I wouldn't be surprised if the kid that "moved out" actually went into a recovery home.

OK that makes sense. I was in NYC with some friends wandering around and we took a turn down some residential side street. Sidewalks were covered in blankets, cardboard and folding tables with people selling stuff off them. The street was packed with people and everyone was yelling and hollering at each other, it was crazy. This seemed to me more like 'swap meet', but it did not have a name or as far as I know even any kind of advertising or planning.

Flea markets I have been too were usually in a building or big parking lot where people had to rent out stalls, more 'organized chaos.' And these places usually had a name and were advertised on the radio/tv.

I guess like you say it just depends on what part of the country you are in, but that one I stumbled on in NYC was much more fun than the flea markets I have been too.

I think that would be more of a yardsale/garage sale, but since I live in the suburbs and not an urban/city environment, they stay pretty tame (and boring) here.

The flea market I go to is set up outdoors in a huge dirt lot with rows upon rows upon rows of white-spray-painted plywood tables, it's like $15/day for the table and you can stay from when they open to when they close. Me, my mom, and my little brother, who are all from NJ (technically I'm from CA but I was a baby when we moved) call it a flea market. My dad, who grew up his entire life in CA, calls it a swap meet.

I've gotten some neat stuff from them though. I got a ton of Rubiks cubes when I used to collect them and modify them for speedcubing for $.25/$.50 a piece, I got a Falcon mobo Phat 360 with a burnt out laser off of this guy for $8 under the pretense of "it no read disk". $8 for a new laser later and the thing works flawlessly. That, some other miscellaneous shit; I'm trying to get into the "business" of buying cheap China cables and adapters and reselling them for a few hundred percent markup, which still turns out to be way cheaper than OEM pieces. Waiting for my first shipment and for me and my dad to fix my car before I get that together.

A bit of a moral question here, Tempers (hoping for sincere answers and not just a flame war.) I just bought this at a swap meet with no testing and no guarantee that it worked (as is.) Took it home and it fired right up. Checked the FW in hopes that it was <3.55 but it wasn't. Lastly, it has a lot of PSN titles in the Games section of the XMB as the user accounts were never deleted. I'd like to take the titles and move them to my other PS3, but I'm pretty sure that's an absolute no-no. I don't plan on putting this PS3 online, so I don't really intend to delete the accounts.

I tried playing some of the titles (Mortal Kombat II) and felt no guilt. I'd like to leave it as is, but I might throw in an old 160GB HDD just for fun. But if I do that, can I back up the current accounts so as to keep the games? I already have 2 other PS3s and bought this one on a whim just to tinker with. Thoughts?
All the games that are currently installed on the system should remain playable regardless of whether or not you'll add additional accounts and install new content, but they are playable only on that particular system. You can only install them on another PS3 system if you have the login and password of the other user's PSN account, that would allow Game Sharing unless the games are already installed on 2 PS3 units, the one they're installed on now included.

There's nothing morally wrong in using the content left on the console by its previous user, although licensing issues leave it in a rather gray "legal" area. That said, you will not be penalized for doing so, it's not explicitly forbidden.

I hope that answers your question. :)
