I'm extremely new to the wii u modding stuff and I wanted to put games on my system. so basically what I did was this

>went to wii u usb helper downloaded games
>put the games on my SD card
>put the SD card in the wii u
>opened homebrew > mocha
>opened homebrew again > WUP installer gx2 and downloaded the games from there

when I click on the games it tells me that the software cannot be used and the NNID doesnt exist.
How do I make the games playable?
I'm really new to this so It'd be nice if someone could walk me through it. thanks

If the game didn't receive a disc release, then you are going to have to run CFW (Mocha, Haxchi, or CBHC) before being able to play the game. You have to re-run CFW each time you power off the system before being able to play one of these games.

Nevermind what I originally said, it's probably something with your CFW. Do you get any errors when installing the game?

I would recommend purchasing a DS game for like $7 and installing Haxchi over it it's just more reliable than Mocha, and then if you want you can install CBHC so you don't have to run any CFW it does it automatically, although there is a slight brick risk but as long as you don't do something really stupid you'll be fine.

It might just be what Lacius said you need to run Mocha or whatever CFW every time you boot also.

What kind of game was it Wii U, Wii, Gamecube, N64, DS? There are others even.

Yeah I edited my post because if you were able to install the games with no errors then it's not a problem with your sd card or Wup Installer GX2, it's most likely that you just need to run Mocha each time you boot like Lacius said.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Only Wii U games in the same region you live in you don't have to run CFW before playing, any other system or region game you have to run CFW.

It's mostly virtual console games but I dont think I had any errors. I bought brain age to use haxchi but i have trouble using it

You will have to do that every time you boot.

But I would not give up on Haxchi especially since you paid for the DS game. Why is not working are you getting errors etc... maybe we can help you get it to work then if you want to you could install CBHC and then it autoboots CFW, so then you can just play your games.

ok so my deal with haxchi is I have a haxchi installer on my homebrew, but I think originally i used brain age to replace the homebrew Icon on my home menu. so when i go into haxhi installer thing it says "please select the game for installation from the list below"
it then has the option for brain age, but i guess im a litte worried to click on it. what should I do

Go ahead and proceed and click Brain Age, it will overwrite that game and give you Haxchi to use for CFW. It is safe.

The only slight risk is if you want CBHC so you don't have to do that if you don't want, but it gives you automatic CFW every boot.

so i booted haxchi (i pressed ok and all that) and it showed the mocha logo. so I'm testing this out by restarting the console and i try one of the virtual console games and it gives me the error. I might have to boot mocha everytime i start up the console

You need to edit the haxchi cfg file. The default looks like this.

Change default to fw.img or mocha. Then reinstall haxchi to your ds title.

Or leave it as is and just keep the a button held down while booting haxchi

You simply open the cfg file in Microsoft word and type fw.img where it says default then save the file. It really doesn't need a video to do lol.
yes, but i really dont want to mess this up. where is the cfg file located. do i replace the word default with fw.img. can I use notepad because i dont have word?

alright, so final check, it should look like this, and when I open the wii u, i need to reinstall brain age via eshop, and from there go into haxchi via homebrew and click on brain age and it should be done. is this all right?

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.
