If you have a SNES, a $15 upscaler/HDMI converter will do basically the same thing:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XC81FFL/

Better to have original hardware.
cmon no it doesnt... this is not running on hardware but on emulator and original hardware can never be as good as the emulator with their tweaks and options, they render the game in hd inside the game itself wich is 10 times better than just upscalling the picture out of a real snes...

emulators always make games look better even if can have bugs or glitches.

isn't this a glorified android powered snes9x emulator? cannot they use higan instead?

how about SNES classic?

Not at all, it uses their own code, handled by NERD, Nintendo's Europe R&D team. Their emulator is called Canoe, and has about 80% compatibility. These other clone companies have been caught lifting open-source noncommercial source code and selling it.

Nah, the Analogue Super NT can do it better than a real Snes with upscaling hardware like that IMO. Plus, I'm too lazy to do that.

SNES games don't magically improve in visual quality even if you turn up the resolution in an emulator to something ridiculous. It's the same 16-bit graphics, which I'm fine with. Only early 3D is painful to look at now, not SNES. That's why we have so many indie games releasing with a 16-bit style.

Nothing can impress me after the Super NT. It's gotta be the definitive way to play this console (while still using real cartridges).
Cost is a factor, but to a collector, it's worth it.

again improving resolution inside the game itself and get pitch perfect graphics is better than upscalling a picture out of your snes.

i put this picture to rest my case

That's funny, I like the left better. If all it can manage is to take away the 16-bit styling, I'll pass.

on emulator you have countless options you can make it look how you want from scalling to resolution to sprite options and such.

That's fine, I prefer playing these games as they were released though. I love SNES cartridges and controllers. I even love the blocky design of the console itself, before everything became rounded.

Like I said, my eyes have no problem with 16-bit whatsoever. I don't need more visual clarity, I only need a converter because my 4K TV doesn't have RWY inputs (unsurprisingly).

Absolutely not. To get the original hardware to look good on an HDTV you need to RGB mod it and use a $300 framemeister or a OSSC which is a bit cheaper, but still expensive.

The best option at the moment is probably the Super NT.

I guess we'll find out if it's acceptable or not. As long as the signal is 720p or 1080p I should be fine for my purposes.

It's already been found out. The best you can get without modding a SNES is S-Video which still looks like crap on modern displays. That upscaler can't magically add detail to a bad signal.

Well, as I said, I don't need more detail, I just need the image to fill my screen. If it looks old, that's kinda the point.

Ok if you don't care that's something else, but it won't look "old", just bad. It'll look nothing like it looked on an old CRT.

its not about looking old lol.

every console under hd connected to an hd tv looks awnful becuase it looks blurry as hell making games almost unplayable sometimes even with upscallers and all that because the base signal is very low res, and your using a snes on a 4k tv? good god, it will be just a blurry mess of pixels, old consoles look like crap on anything else than a crt tv becuase of their extremely low resolution signals.

1080p and 720p look fine on a 4K screen FYI.

Check out this video if you're interested. It's really good and explains everything.

Thanks, seems cheap enough to get an RGB SCART cable and then convert to HDMI. There are converters around $40, so that's a lot more reasonable than the Framemeister's $400 lol.
