Sorry, but I don't understand how people are still having problems with this.

Use this.

Open the rom, Import the header. It'll automatically change the Chip ID based on Card Type and Capacity. The only thing you need to change is Manufacturer. Try the first one. If it doesn't work, try the next one. Still not working? Try the last one.

Thanks for info.

Worked patching with Aliak's tool. "Macronix" chip type worked.

No It's referring to saves before you insert a header to make it go online, changing the extension from .3ds to .3dz makes the .3ds save incompatible so you have to start over, so for future reference just make all your roms you plan to go online with .3dz

"SAVES FROM SCENE GAMES DON'T SEEM TO WORK. MAKE SURE TO MAKE BACKUPS OR THEY MAY BE LOST!"

Does this mean you can't save your game at anytime?
No. What they're trying to say there is:
If you started playing a scene rom before injecting the header. Injecting the header can cause your previous save to become corrupted

I downloaded an online patched ROM, just wondering if I can use my own header from an original backup game on it.

And BTW, can Nintendo really tell we are using a ROM? What about if I use a MK7 header on a SSB3DS ROM? Will they know it is SSB with a MK7 header?

I can't get Heroes of Ruin working online. I dumped my NSMB2 cart to get the header from it and I still get an error that this game card can't be used online. Anyone got it working? Any suggestions?

According to what people are saying, the program to inject a header can automatically fix all fields except manufacturer.

I want to avoid this program and manually edit the header (using a hex editor). The fields are manufacturer, size, unknown, and card type. How to find the size and card type is obvious, and the manufacturer can only be fixed by trial and error. That leaves "Unknown". What does the program to inject a header do to fix the "Unknown", that I can use to manually fix it myself?

I have some questions about 3DZ files.
Can eshop game headers be dumped?
Do all games (online/offline/streetpass) have headers?
Do the dumped headers work with only one game?

Hi there! If I chose the wrong chip manufacturer - won't the game connect to Nintendo Network at all? Because so far all games that I tried worked using Macronix. Sometimes there are connection errors, though, and I'm just wondering: Is it always only 1 chip that works or is sometimes 1 chip just "better" than the others?

It's great to see everyone coming together to try come to a solution to this. At the moment I'm on my Girlfriends MAC so I'm not gonna try to inject headers etc, though would like a little more info, I read a lot of pages but I'm not gonna read the entire 63 hahaha

4 Quick Questions:
  • I'm assuming this is the same method for the most recent 3.0.1 update of gateway?
  • In the OP it talks about Gateway ROM Patcher 0.6, is this an update to aliak11 's ROM Editor 0.3?
  • Has it been confirmed that the ROM Size matters? E.g, inserting a 1024MB Header into a 512MB ROM will work, but a 512 -> 1024 will not be successful?
  • If I trim my ROMs first with THIS APPLICATION, can the headers still be changed since the file sizes have been changed?
Aliak's editor seems to be very simple, enabling you to load one rom, then simply click import header from another ROM to change it. Is that really the case? Is ROM Patcher 0.6 preferred to this?

Finally, the OP is slightly confusing, it talks about ROM cleaner originally, then in the quotation box it mentions Gateway Rom Patcher, which are the same application right? I only determined that by the link to rom cleaner ending in 'GRPv0-6' hahaha

Thanks to anyone that can clear this up for me!

1: Yes. Why would it change?
2: Different people made them, but the interface is nearly identical.
3: I have used SSB4 headers on 256MB(Ultimate NES Remix), 512MB(NSMB2), 1GB(MK7) and 2GB(Pokemon AS) using ROM Patcher, so it at least equal or smaller games work. Haven't tried others.
4: Trimming before/after is fine. All it does is remove empty space/garbage files used to meet cart size requirements. 3DS carts only come in regulated sizes (256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB and 4GB) Mario Kart is actually 664MB, they just use the smallest cart size possible (1GB)

The two editors do the exact same thing.

And yes, same app.

That's because you use 45 (Sandisk) in the chip ID. It should be C2 (Macronix).
Yeah that small thing can make all the difference from my own experience.
