I CLAIM NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOUR CONSOLE/GAME CARD IS BANNED FROM ONLINE. USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

UPDATE February 2015 : Nintendo started banning users playing online.
We suspect the use of Public Headers, but the real detection method is currently unconfirmed. Use this guide at your own risk.

More information about the first 3DS banning wave : https://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendo-begins-banning-pirates-from-3ds-online-service.381168/

SAVES FROM .3DS FILE ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH .3DZ FILE. MAKE SURE TO MAKE BACKUPS OR THEY MAY BE LOST!

The first line is the unique ID of the card, for now don't edit it. You can insert any unique ID into and rom. The second line is the Card ID, this is the one you can change. Below is an explanation of what each hex number means.

1. Manufacturer (0x1240)
45 = SanDisk
AE = OKI Semiconductor
C2 = Macronix

2. Size (0x1241)
7F = 128mb
FF = 256mb
FE = 512mb
FA = 1gb
F8 = 2gb
F0 = 4gb

3. Unknown (0x1242)
00 =
02 =

4. Card Type (0x1243)
90 = card1
98 = card2

LIST OF SHARED HEADERS:
Luigis Mansion (CARD-1, 1GB): https://www.dropbox.com/s/e32pymsp3w2rzok/CTR-P-AGGE.bin
Kirby Triple Deluxe (CARD-1, 1GB): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/52569571/CTR-P-BALE.bin
Metal Gear Solid 3D (CARD-1 4GB, seems to work with almost all scene dumps): http://ojm5yq2uqr.dl4free.com/

Qtis added on 20.05.2014:
So... to make it simple for all the new arrivals on this thread, the complete method to go online is :
1) Just do a cartridge backup with the Gateway dumper, whatever title OR get a ROM which have be done with a Gateway
2) load this dump with Gateway Rom Patcher v0.6. Check that the cartridge ID of the ROM is present (value different than FFFFFF...). Press Export to save a .bin file.
3) get a ROM you want to play online with. Open it with gateway rom patcher v0.6
4) Press import button and load the .bin you just saved. If the .bin not match your rom, an auto fix will be offered. Accept.
5) Press inject to apply the fixed header to the ROM
6) rename your rom .3ds as .3dz and let's try it online with your gateway !

Bonus step if you did all the steps above and the game still can't connect :
7) reload the ROM into gateway rom patcher, change the Manufacturer ID by another one.
loop to step 5.
Maybe first page should be edited.

I tried with Pokemon X (using the header from a personal dump of Y) in a hex editor and the game loaded, but it did not download the digital ID. I will try it with the sorter and see if that works out.

I mentioned this in the huge thread, but I tried doing the same thing with a New Super Mario Bros 2 dump to a Mario Kart 7 dump and rename it to 3dz I get the message similar to playing SDK5+ games on GW 1.2

Interestingly enough if I keep it as .3DS the rom runs, but I can't play online.

Once again Nintendo security turns out to be completely useless. Take an ID from one game, put it in another game, magic happens. I wonder what will be the long-term effects of this, if any.

Does it matter that the IDs are exchangeable? They can still ban cards.

I can confirm that injecting a header into a scene rom will cause save data loss, as the injected rom will no longer register the existing save as valid.

Well that's weird, exporting my New Super Mario Bros 2 cartridge header didn't work but using OP's header bin file did work. I'm not sure if the Gateway dump on my card was bad or if some games are just not compatible.

Does it matter that the IDs are exchangeable? They can still ban cards.

First, we don't know that (it seems highly unlikely)
But if it's true, it means you can just get a cheap $1 game and unban yourself.

What makes you think that they can do something that they've never done before and have shown no signs of being able to do? That's complete speculation at this point and after the online security bombs that were the Wii and the DS/i lines I think this can be put into question. If ID's are exchangable between completely different games then there are three possible scenarios - there is no whitelist of ID's for given games in existence or such a whitelist exists but was not implemented yet or the systems or cards are flagged for a banwave at a later date, meaning they'll go with the blacklist route instead. At this point in time any of those scenarios is possible.

So if IDs are interchangeable, as long as they are legit, I wonder if it's possible to generate them, similar to keygens for pc games. Obviously those did not work for online, as they were generally checked against a whitelist, but if IDs are switchable, it would seem they are not being checked against something and are simply being checked to see if they are valid format.

Not sure why the worry over bans all of a sudden either.

Assuming you already take your 3ds online with legit games, you are going online with:

Patched firmware to load from SD card
Region check patched out
Possibly out of region games in your play log.
Accessing eshop with it

Fine with doing that, but going online with a game is where you draw the line?

Does anyone know how to get the old save working? When doing this the save file gets corrupted. I've let the game create a new save then transferred back my old one and it still says its corrupted. I think it has something to do with the .3DZ file since it doesn't happen when it's saved as .3ds

Looks like a few select games don't work, or maybe a few select games only work. I had the same issue with NSMB 2.
