It worked fine. 3 minor issues:

* Couldn't install HBC at first, had to delete the boot files and download the one at the official hbc website.
* Couldn't install the IOS for the wii shop channel. I got an error while/just after it downloaded. Restarting the system worked fine, I didn't try it again because there is no wiiware or room that I want now, and of course, it made me a little scared

* Backup Launcher Gamma is shown on the first page of hbc and don't have the "9 -" as the tutorial says.


One question: Will the Mii Channel work? I heard about some problems with it and homebrew.

Sorry to hi-jack this puppy but are there any places where I could read up on exactly what is happening when you hack the Wii? I mean, I've already done the hack already, but I want to "upgrade" to the new gamma loader.....I've done the hack without really knowing what the hell I'm doing.....what is the IOS, or the cIOS for that matter? I can't find any explanation for what I'm doing when I replace files and load files. I just want to understand what's going on in the background, I hate not understanding something I'm doing that could mess up a Wii. Forgive my ignorance; hopefulyy there are some resources out there that could explain this all to me, thanks for reading and any help that may come my way

I would love to know that as well.
Anyway, I think that you only need to update the gamma files on your SD card. Maybe install/uninstall some IOS too, read the documentation that comes with it.

To learn more about what you're doing, check the WiiBrew wiki. It is not very deep though, and that's why I would also like to see some explanations to the content of this tutorial.

Basically your installing an Special Operating System that the backup launcher can run on that sits along side the normal one - ask specifics and you will prob get more specific answers but its hard to answer vague questions

IOS is an basically an operating system - the reason there are so many is that some of the new games need different settings so Nintendo add in new ones from time to time to enable a game to play properly.

Cios is just a Custom IOS usually developed by a non Nintendo employee

A WAD is basically a channel that runs a DOL file (program) directly and saves all the data to the wii's memory instead of needing the DOL file to be read from the SD card.
All it really is is a packaged DOL that has images and sound and a channel on the main screen and all these are installed directly on the wii

Thanks again.....so I guess when you are upgrading to gamma, you update the cIOS, then install the WAD for the loader? I have seen the Auto Loader as well, does this just place it in the channel area or does it do more than that?

cool you did the right thing for HBC and Wiishop should be fine don't let it scare you

Gamma will not show 9- it is on the SD card though

ok you don't need to panic at all , if you put the SD card in the PC and explore it , you will find folders like Apps with individual folders inside and in each folder represent an app there is a BOOT.DOL file and this is for the Wii like an EXE for windows it so when upgraded an app you have to change the .DOL file inside it's folder and so you go, these apps are run from the SD card on the go and doesn't write to your Wii or change any permanent settings .
inside Wad folder you will see a bunch of .WAD files and these are an installers to many different files (.dol) and does install it into you Wii nand memory and it runs after installation as channels or Cios which Custom Ios and that does give you an access to the system area where you are not allowed to by Nintendo

and those get to install by using an app like Wad Manager 1.3 from the Apps folder

First thanks for all the effort put into the installer. I just softmodded my parents wii and got a dvd error 324 on wiigator. From searching online it seems like it comes fromincompatibility with the media. I tried using the same backups I use on my wii (Verbatim -r). I also tried a DL DVD+r and received the error on both. Any suggestions?

When installing starfall, my screen is horribly offcentered, as if it were zoomed in. In the system menu, games, and other homebrew apps the screen positioning is fine. Is there some reason as to why starfall is bad for me? Its just a concern because I cannot see the bullet for which option I am trying to install. Thanks


Its as if the edges have all been cropped to the point where I am missing a lot of text, if you need a better explanation I can probably find a camera

Wiigators backup launcher at this current time does NOT support dual layer DVD's.

Thats not true... It worked for my SSBB dvd9 backup on my home wii.

Okay, so I downloaded the installer you created. Extracted the main file to come to the second installer and the folder with the data.bin files. I extracted the second installer straight to my SD card as you specified, and copied the appropriate save game file to the corresponding folder on my SD card (I also deleted the other two folders that I didn't need).

From this point, I put my SD card into my Wii, and copied the save game file without problem. I start up Zelda, and there are 2 different save game files to choose from.
- The first save game file loads, but when I go to talk to the guy it completely seizes up and freezes.
- The second save game file loads, and when I talk to the guy my screen turns black and the white writing appears. But I can't install anything. I get nothing but error codes. "Error ret - 2011" - I think that is what it was.

Oh, I'm also running 3.4 firmware.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I think I've followed the instructions properly...

Any help would be great, thanks!

as it was said above you have very limited space to only 512mb of nand space that's why use it wisely and just install games you wanna play now and delete it once finished with it

just to be sure that we have things right try installing Waninkoko's Ios36 rev7 first and run one of your games and see ( Verbatim -r is what I use and never had any issues

) and DL DVD+r are supported for games like SSBB and it runs like a charm but for regular games around 4.7GB don't waste a DL DVD , post back the results please and happy holidays

ok Starfall is off centered on NTSC screens and most USA region users face this problem but it show on the first agreement screen more than the second install screen and still you should be able to figure what you miss of writings , however after pressing B+2 then B+1 on first screen go ahead and click A for each option to install on the second screen and you should be fine

you are doing great buddy but there two things I'm worried about

:
1- be sure for 3.4 to use the twilight3.4.bin after you change it's name into data.bin (so don't use the one in the folder that it says data.bin cause that's for 3.3 and below then go to the second save slot cause that's the one compatible with your game

2-be sure to run the game fast after copying the game save to your Wii before the 3.4 delete it , speed is an important factor here

anyway i have version 3.3E (console was bought a week ago) and when i load the save file in zelda it appears to work and the screen scrolls down with lots of text, then it takes me to WAD Manager 1.3 and the HBC isnt installed, any idea where im going wrong here?

instead of the HBC install boot.dol, you have the WAD manager boot.dol in your SD root directory. So either find a WAD to install the HBC or find the HBC install boot.dol here: http://hbc.hackmii.com/download/

once HBC is installed, you can open the WAD manager if you put it in SD:\apps\WAD Manager\
