How does saving work with NDS injects?

    Hi,

I just installed a bunch of pre-made NDS injects to my Wii U using WUP Installer. They all run perfectly but I was wondering how saving works. Can I save from inside the game like I normally would when playing a DS game or do I specifically have to use the "Create a restore point" feature from the VC menu?

The reason I ask is because I was playing "New Super Mario Bros" as a test and naturally when you start the game it asks you to make a game save. I completed the first level, exited the game and reloaded it. The game instantly put me back to where I was before I suspended it. So I decided to exit the game properly. When the game started the 3 save files were empty and it asked me to start the game again from scratch. So I'm guessing the native DS saving doesn't work.

That's normal behavior, you can save using the normal saving methods of the game you're playing

New super mario bros games only let you save after you complete any castle level, but you can save anytime using the save option on the pause menu (but it will delete itself once you reload that save if you saved from the pause menu)

Once you complete the game however, the save option on the pause menu will change into a normal save option, making the saves stay even after you load that specific save

Thanks for the reply! I think I'm following. Just a quick follow up questions...

Does the game actually ever exit or does it always resume from where you last suspended it?

Also when you save (regardless of what method), does the Wii U make any external save files on the SD card or hard drive?

Any Virtual Console title on Wii U (this includes NES, SNES, N64, GameBoy, GameBoy Color, GBA and DS) will always resume from where you left it unless your Wii U suffered from a power outrage

Well, I only know for sure the Wii U creates (or overwrites the file if it already exists) a .sav file where the game is stored, think of this as the .sav files any emulator creates and uses
As for restore points I believe it's basically the same thing and it works the same way too, but with a different extension like .ss or .sav1

Thanks for clearing it up. The reason I'm asking about this is because I'm setting up a Wii U for someone and filling it with a bunch of content for them.. Wii U games, Wii, GameCube, N64 injects etc.. As I'm testing these games to make sure they're working, most of the time, they're creating saves files somewhere on the system. -- I want to delete these so when I hand it over as a gift and they go to play a game, it wont resume from where I was testing.

Wii, GameCube and even N64 have all been straight forward. I've been able to locate the save files and delete them. But NDS was a little confusing haha
