How do you feel about the Switch 2 UI?

The problem with the Switch's huge success is that it probably made Nintendo reluctant to change much of anything. But, I think the main reason is that the Switch 2 will share the same firmware with the Switch (hence the launch system version will be 20.1.0).
Honestly, in that case, it makes sense that they stayed with the same UI then. I wish that there were at the very least themes this time around though. Who knows though, maybe they'll reveal that somewhere down the line. Eventually. I hope.

If they eventually stop supporting the Switch, they may well add some features specific to the Switch 2. But who knows.

Switch 2 is already confirmed to have extra battery charging settings. Heck, OLED has color vibrancy settings exclusive to it.

I can't believe how old the Switch is now, it's over 8-years after its launch and is near to becoming a retro system, depending on how you look at it.

Yeah, and I'm sure it'll be around for another couple of years yet.

I meant UI specific, but yeah they already added the virtual cards too.

I used to think it mattered when the consoles were able to do more things besides play games, kinda like the 3DS, PS3/4. But modern consoles don't really offer a lot of features anymore such as include web browsers or local content streaming. They're gutted.

But these days, I can't say I really care.

i'm not disappointed, but i'm also not impressed. Clearly it runs on the "if its not broke don't fix it" principle as long as it has dark mode out of the box.

I really wish they'd bring back fun stuff to the OS, like being able to create folders and sort stuff the way you want to like the 3DS had. I feel like the 3DS was the last "fun" system. It had so much personality and so much going for it.
And I feel like this stuff is so much more important with a handheld console. Playing a handheld is much more private and the console is quite literally something you carry with you, so you want it to feel more personal and tailored.

A console with a similar name as its predecessor, same shape, same UI... They really want to pull a Wii U all over again it seems.

Personally, I never had an issue with the Switch UI, but seeing how it was also very similar to the 3DS one, it would have been nice having something more different. Let's hope we can customize this one.

Exactly, it would get people to bring their Switch with them to more places. It IS a handheld first and foremost afterall. Designed to be portable.
It's way too big to be portable. If the Switch 2 is portable then so is the Game Gear. 😆

There's not much they could do to differentiate although it really doesn't look too different than the original Switch.

I just call it... Switch Pro.

In the last Nintendo Ad we've been able to take a glimpse at the "new" Switch 2 UI:

I don't know about you but I'm pretty underwhelmed and honestly wonder what Nintendo did all those years since the Switch 1 release. The only good thing is there's rumors that themes will be available for Switch 2. So it's time for another themehax, maybe?:rofl2:
boooooooooooo

The new UI is fine. But if their "Themes" are still only limited to "Basic White" and "Basic Black", then they might as well not even have a "Themes" menu.

It's still portable in the sense that you can easily carry it around and use it just about anywhere, which is pretty much the definition of portable. You're thinking "pocketable," which, if that's your definition of "portable," then that also means a laptop isn't "portable," either.

My laptop is very portable. Not sure what you mean about that.

This has to be the funniest take I've seen in a long time. What on earth do you think portable means?
Taking it anywhere. If I'm carrying a backpack, yes, but otherwise it's really just too big.

Same goes for laptops and tablets and those are meant to be portable, too.

I really think they should've done more with the screen space. Add some more info! Fill some of that dead space! Made a horrible mock-up to show what I mean, I guess. (As if this has not been done in a bajillion fan mock-ups)

i think it'd be neat if there was like a gradient/pattern in between the top and bottom bars. or a blurred version of the key art to give it some aesthetic instead of being plain white or dark grey
