How do you feel about the Switch 2 UI?

People that are saying that "there's no need for a good GUI, it just needs to launch games" - would you like it if the HOME menu on a console was nothing more but a command line?

Black screen, white letters, and a keyboard. Nothing more. But it launches games if you type in "run [game_id]". You can view the titles of installed games and their IDs by typing in "list". You plug in a cartridge but it does nothing until you type in "mount".

A good UI and UX is important. You surely wouldn't say "but it plays games and that's the only thing I need" if the above was the case for the Switch 2.
I run Linux, I see no issues with this.

In my opinion the PS5 has more personality for a "minimal" menu. It has some nice ambience, and some games have a banner song (Astros Playroom for example.)

IMO, Nintendo should've just done something like sony did. I hope we at least get themes.

I just wish they kept the retro themes.

To all that people saying "the UI doesn't matter", don't be ridiculous. I started playing since the NES,back in 1991. Then, SNES, Game Boy, and every other Nintendo console. When the Gamecube came out, I remember me watching the "UI" of the menu, that is, starting the console with the lid opened. I remember telling to myself "wow, this is great", just seeing the memory card menu and all of those things. Then the Wii, with a strange yet new UI. The Wii U later, with the Mii Plaza and all those things flying on the background. IT IS INDEED a step back since the Switch UI. It feels soulless, boring, with no life... just as the current Nintendo president. I don't know how many filters are there and what ideas does he gives green light to, but I feel that since that guy took over, everything feels stale and boring. No useful novelties, no new ideas... just suing left and right.

Last edited by nWo,
that looks about the same as the switch UI

could have added a bit more colour to make it vivid. Quite uninspiring overall

In the last Nintendo Ad we've been able to take a glimpse at the "new" Switch 2 UI:

I don't know about you but I'm pretty underwhelmed and honestly wonder what Nintendo did all those years since the Switch 1 release. The only good thing is there's rumors that themes will be available for Switch 2. So it's time for another themehax, maybe?:rofl2:
If it's quick and snappy I'm happy.

Groups yes, folders nope. But perhaps that is semantics a bit.
But still these Groups are limited.
I actually really like the groups. In fact I prefer them over folders since they are basically folders but you can store the same app in multiple groups if you like. The only issue I have is you have to scroll all the way to the right to access them.

I have one opinion about it:
NINTENDO, JUST GIVE US THE GODDAMN CUSTOM THEMES AND FOLDERS BACK, THIS NS2 UI IS STILL HORRIBLE.

Also, eShop music. Like, the NS2 is probably fast enough to have eShop music now. And Nintendo said they cant do eShop music because it interrupts game trailers. Just do what the 3DS and Wii U did my silencing the music when a video opens!

Also in that one video of the eShop they moved to a more red look instead of orange. Probably a bit biased because I like orange but that is just a weird change.

I'm personally in the camp of i want it to look cool and be fun but even if you just want speed and efficiency of use (you can have both but :p) like give me folders or give me death XD, the current switch UX sucks imo, i want folders and i dont want to have to track down the specific tile for the cartridge game i inserted. if they added a dedicated "cartridge tile" akin to the 3ds/dsi and wii/wiiu, folders in addition to groups and let me zoom out like i could on the 3ds i would be happy, if nintendo really wanted to spoil me they could add a changing back ground image depending on the game im hovering over and custom themes or even just the option for a few different colours like they had on the 3ds.

Honestly excited to when someone can create CFW for it so we can have our own home menus, or just run Linux on it (Like the Switch.)

I must be honest, I was into the homebrew scene way back with the original Switch, which I have since passed on as a present.
I dont even know the current state of affairs but, I assume, there is a modchip, there is the migswitch and clones, but besides that it's still the entire sigpatch atmosphere game of catch-up every time?

Yeah valid, but you can't store more then... I though it was 50 games in 1 group. That sounds ok unless you have 700+ games (yeah I know don't get me started :P) Also having to go into More software before you can access them ... is a pain indeed.

I don't even need themes, I just want the ability to set a custom background picture (or any background picture at all). A true black theme would be nice too, though I guess pointless since the screen isn't OLED.

I like the Switch UI, it's very well-made for what it is, but it definitely lacks personality compared to earlier consoles. 6th gen (GameCube, PS2, Xbox) was truly the peak of slick, interesting console UI's.

I'm not into Switch modding yet (I'm going to buy one soon) but with V1 Switches there is fusee-gelee.

They'd get clowned if they tried selling Switch 2 for that price with themes either way, so why bother? At least they held out the longest with making something cool. Both 3DS and WiiU had pretty decent dashboards.

I feel hitting a cap is definitely only a problem pirates would have to worry about but on my unmodded system I currently have a group with 107 titles in it. Which is a LOT seeing folders on Wii U and 3DS stored less.
