In the last Nintendo Ad we've been able to take a glimpse at the "new" Switch 2 UI:

I don't know about you but I'm pretty underwhelmed and honestly wonder what Nintendo did all those years since the Switch 1 release. The only good thing is there's rumors that themes will be available for Switch 2. So it's time for another themehax, maybe?:rofl2:

In the first place, the ui does not matter much.
You click a game and thats it.
But i know what you mean, its boring and soulless.
The wii and wii u had a wonderful ui, its a shame that its now so boring.

As far as i can see, nintendo did nothing the last years. No Innovation, as of today no games that matter, nearly the same ui as switch 1.
So sad to see that the games industry driver of Innovation is no more innovative.

Light mode being the default is a stab at us light-sensitive folks who need dark mode as an accessibility feature as the default, so that's the #1 issue for me is being blinded by simply turning the device on.

I really wish they'd bring back fun stuff to the OS, like being able to create folders and sort stuff the way you want to like the 3DS had. I feel like the 3DS was the last "fun" system. It had so much personality and so much going for it.

Who cares about presentation, fun, artistic design, charm and good memories for the future. It's just for playing games. Don't think, just play games, reject novelty, consume
all of that is through the games, not the ui. that should be functional and fast

Meh. Seems to still be restricted to white/black backgrounds. Nintendo seems to be allergic to colours other than black and white. I don't even ask for graphic themes, just more "basic" colours.

They can have fancy designs (eg zelda) for the console, joycons and even the dock.....but god forbid they have anything more than black and white for their UI background.

Consoles today are not just "turn on and start a game". They provide you services, digital games that you can't insert into cardridge slot, switch online, eshop, even system settings. These things require a menu to facilitate these things, therefore the UI and navigation is integral part of the console experience.

And it's not like you can't make UI both fun yet functional and fast. See 3DS.

Imagine they did similar thing with main menus in games. You buy a game, you are greeted with plain white/dark screen with game title in the middle and "Start the game" button which takes you straight into the game. Would most people be happy with this?

Oh god yes. As someone who spent most of the 1980s in the Arcades that's exactly what I want.

Well, I wouldn't be, that's why there used to be this thing called choice.
And once again, a a menu can be fast and good looking.
Choose to buy a used Legion Go instead! lmao

People that are saying that "there's no need for a good GUI, it just needs to launch games" - would you like it if the HOME menu on a console was nothing more but a command line?

Black screen, white letters, and a keyboard. Nothing more. But it launches games if you type in "run [game_id]". You can view the titles of installed games and their IDs by typing in "list". You plug in a cartridge but it does nothing until you type in "mount".

A good UI and UX is important. You surely wouldn't say "but it plays games and that's the only thing I need" if the above was the case for the Switch 2.

Considering some of the die hard Linux users I've encountered....yes, there are people who would want this.
