I never had much luck getting 4NXCI converted XCIs to work. Either they don't install at all or they give an error about corrupted data on trying to launch them. nsc_builder is supposed to work pretty well from what I've heard so I'll give that a try next.
I don't know about OG Tinfoil, but blawar's Tinfoil does supposedly support installing nsps (over USB/Wifi it's supposed to let you install them if you put them in the same folder as Nut server and use usbfs:// in Tinfoil to select them, I assume copying the xci to the SD would work just the same but you'd need an ExFAT formatted card for that which isn't recommended due to corruption issues)
I can't recommend blawar's Tinfoil though. Not with the sketchy shit blawar's been doing recently, it's bordering on malware.
ZeroTwoXCI can install XCIs as well so give that a try. Or convert them beforehand with nsc_builder.
