How do I play GC backups on an unmodded Wii??(I've got The Homebrew Channel)

I heard you need something like GCbooter?

Please make my wish come true my fellow GBAtemp-mates.

Actually it is possible, but it requires an SD Gecko/Wiikey SD adapter. Basically an SD card adapter for the GC memory card slot. However it is hardly worth the effort since few games load and the ones that do load have horrid audio/video problems. Of the dozen or so games i tried only Wind Waker and Super Mario Sunshine worked and neither had music.

A hardmod is still the best way to go. And there's an awesome new generation of chips coming. No more soldering required, Just open the Wii, connect a flatcable and that's it

My chip is pretty old (a 1st generation one, but it is 001-compatible) and it's still working fine. But now with this new generation of chips, I'm really thinking about installing a new one. Especially the one with ISO loading directly from an external SATA hard drive looks really interesting.

that's one of them. It doesn't load DVD backups, but needs an external computer to recieve the ISO's from

and this product (if real) should load them from an external drive directly, without the need for a computer: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=129810&st=0
And I believe (not sure though) DriveKey acts like a normal modchip, loading backup DVD's.

little thing called SD-Boot though GC Booter, play GC Backups on a Un Modded Wii, Compatibly isn't very good though and requires a sd gecko
so it is possible and i myself have tried it, But it anit very good, so a hardmod is the best Way

There's a Wii-Boss in my Wii. That's a small circuit board with a 12F629 programmable chip on it and a small flatcable that comes out at the back of the wii. I can use that to update the chip with a programmer. Now YAOSM is programmed onto it. After the new 001 protection, I just loaded the new updated version and since then all games are working fine.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
