Dragula96, the same guru who whipped up the original homebrew hack, has now introduced 2 Player Pong 1.0 -- the first notable game to take advantage of the Java devkit (devkit topic). Currently, the collisions are "very basic" and further tweaks are necessary before it's perfect, but it should be stable enough to take you to some sort of blissful state for now.

SPECIAL THANKS TO:

silenoz of PS3Hax //for bringing this discovery to the general public
FreePlay //for taking time to develup his Minimal BD-J (Java) Devkit for PS3
Drakon //for wrighting up the gameloop, input functions needed for this project.

the game is not perfect, it needs some tweeks with the variables, collision is very basic.

this is 2 players, can be played with 2 ps3 controllers.

player 1 controls:

up- moves paddle up
down- moves paddle down

player 2 controls:
square- moves paddle up
cross - moves paddle down

ball speeds up every time it hits a paddle to make things interesting.
enjoy.

ready-to-go game pack for the people who haven't been following the evolution of ps3 scene.
this has all the files needed to get started with the homebrews on ps3 and it comes with the "2 player pong 1.0" game.
instruction:
just extract the "PS3 PONG PACK.rar"and put the AVCHD folder and everything in it on USB pen drive root directory.
then plug USB pen drive on ps3, go to video and run the AVCHD folder.
and the game should run.

I find it both amazing and funny at the same time: after all this time, we still go back to Pong

Well, it's not really homebrew. He's just using BD-Java.

It's like doing a custom DVD menu and then claiming of having "homebrew" on a DVD player

This will not lead to any exploit or anything (the author said that on DCEmu) and it probably won't go farther than emulating NES, as it will probably suck performance-wise.

Wow, so after all this time there's no true homebrew hack for PS3? (only the sandboxed linux, or this limited java environment) Either Sony really got their security tight this time, or the hackers don't care enough to hack it

All the hackers probably bought an Xbox 360 and a Wii to mess around with instead of a single console

they dedicated a whole SPE core of the Cell to system security alone
so yea, they pretty much got that locked down tight

but who knows what lies around the corner
custom firmware for the PS3 may become a reality one day...

I think he said he has no interest in trying to hack the ps3 or along those lines

i would love to hear that dark alex works for sony and he was told to hack the psp so it can become much popular than ds.

if ps3 get hacked it will be an advantage for sony but im not going to download 50 gb games it will take a year to finish downloading

And not to mention the fact that you have to own a Blu-Ray Writer and an empty media to spare... That combined with 50gb downloads per game and the risk of failure on burning the blu-ray game, results in making ps3 games look cheaper and easier to get than before

lol thats true . 1 blueray disc is £50 + the write is something like £200 or more = buy a brand new Wii
but we might we be able to boot backups from the hard-drive but u will need an external harddrive because:
1.u wont be able to transfer 50gb from pc to ps3
2. ps3 hard drive is too low, i have the 40 gb ps3 which is not enough.

A lot of PS3 games are single digit GB. Especially non-major multiplatform titles.
Just use a 250GB laptop HDD, that'll fit 15 games in there alright.

It's not as cheap as running backups on other consoles, but it's significantly cheaper than buying retail if you plan on getting 5+ games.
