I just recently installed Rebug on my PS3 after hearing that 4.82 was hackable in hopes of playing my PS2 library. My issue is I am having issues playing ISOs that are 4GB or more due to the limitations of FAT32. Here is everything I have tried thus far and the result.

Reformatting the drive as NTFS/ExFAT and testing the PFS option -> External memory not recognized by PS3
Compressing the .iso in a zip folder. TEsted on both USB flash and internal harddrive -> iso magically disappears after extraction?
Decompressing the iso into a folder and recompressing the iso using MultiMAN -> iso allows me to convert to PSClassic but doesn't load when I attempt to load it. Instead I get greeted by a Black screen and booted back to the XMB. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, please note, yes I know FTP clients exist and yes I know MultiMAN has a built in FTP server. I am not using FTP clients because it would take a day and a half if I tried to transfer via wifi.

EDIT: Thank you for all of the help you gave me! In case anyone else runs in to this issue, here are the solutions I found/was given:
1) Reformat your flash memory as NTSC and then place the ISOs at the root of the flash memory. Then launch MultiMAN and scroll to the tab on the farthest to your left. Find the option PFS options and press X. Then enter go to the desktop view and open the PS3 root (first icon on the gird). You should see a USB device in the list of options there. Open the USB device, then copy the ISO files to the PS2ISO folder in the PS3 library and poof. Your done!

2) Connect your PS3 and PC to the same modem via wired connection. Then use the built-in FTP server on MultiMAN in combination with a FTP Client (I use WinSCP but I have heard good things from Filezilla) to transfer your ISOs. This is a way faster method as it requires less pointlessly moving a 4GB+ file around. (Credit for this solution goes to Dr.Dew)

Yes I know this, but in order to get the PS2 isos on the internal hard drive I need to use an external storage device such as a flash drive because FTP is out of the option. (Transfer speeds of FTP on my network range from 100kB/s to 34B/s)

transfer with FTP but hook up your ps3 to your router via an ethernet cable. It transfers MUCH faster than through wifi. I transfer my 10gb ps3 packages that way in about 10 minutes.

Ah I get you now.

Just run the isos through ps3splitter (google it) on your pc. It will split it into 1 gig chunks with the extension 66600, 66601 etc.

Copy them to internal with multiman and it will automatically merge them back into the original ISO.

download hjsplit porgram, it is just a few kilobytes.
use it to split ps2 game isos, im splitting them 3 gb sizes.
copy all splitted parts to your usb and use multiman to copy them to internal hdd, but on multiman just choose first splitted file and multiman will copy and combine all parts. you will just choose first part.

Irisman can mount ntfs drives, in fact I only have it installed to transfer my PS2 isos from my NTFS USB drive to the HDD of my PS3 (because FTP is too unreliable transferring large files with my router)

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
