your right bladexdsl, the wii will always be in 480p no matter what, it just adjust the screen and other setting to make it 1080p.

If you ever see Xploder hdtv for PS2, that made Grand Turismo into 1080i, its like that. Only it doesn't make the screen that small that you cant see crap.

i'm sure it says it's running in 1080p but i doubt it actually is 1080p it'll still be 480p nothing out there can magically turn 480p into 1080p on the wii.
Wii can't do 1080 obviously. This gadget works like a "DVD Upscaler" but designed for upscale 480p signals to 720 or 1080p on your wii. It's possible that images will look sharper or better since TV will not upscale the incoming signals.

Of course, if you want some of real *magic* then add some kind of internal modchip on the GPU.

See ya!

Important update for people who wish to use the hdmikey, or get one in the future.

It likes HDMI GOLD cable

it has some problems with hdmi silver cables, like the shaky screen thing. The game problems are separate issues, and will most likely be fix with later updates.

But yea i fix the shakey screen problem simply by using hdmi gold cable instead of silver. so i know the device now works better with gold than silver hdmi

Tatsunoko vs Capcom looks GODLY now. Before it didn't look different because the right side of the screen didn't adjust, but now using the Gold hdmi it did adjust.

I can say mario galaxy looks emulator good now.

Out of curiousity, where do you get your info? I've looked at the official site several times but there's nothing there.

A 1080p Wii would be my dream...........Even the Wii U, which is backwards compatible, won't improve the Wii resolution, just upscale it.
I wonder why they can do it on Dolphin, but not on the Wii U.
Anyway, even when I'll get my Wii U, I'll keep my hard and soft modded Wii.
With it I can play any Wii and GC backups out there, which will keep me busy between major games releases.
So, db256, are you saying that the HDMIKey does a hell of a job upscaling ( improved image, colors and sharpness ) or does it actually changes the Wii resolution to 1080p ?
I'm very curious about it, because if it can be done in an emulator, with some extra hardware it could be done on the actual system as well, and what exactly is inside the HDMIKey is still a mystery to me, I mean the potential of what it could actually do with future firmwares updates....

yes it does do a good job upscaling it. as long a you use Hdmi gold instead of silver as i said, silver ones give it issues.

To know what it looks like, watch any dolphin emulator 1080p videos on youtube, and then put it on Fullscreen, thats basically what it looks like.

As for the WiiU i always asked myself, cause Reggie said it doesn't make Wii look better. But wouldn't the Wii games be played depending on the WiiU's resolution and basic settings its set to? Like I have the original Ps3, and when i play a ps2 game like kingdom hearts, it looks better because its playing according to the Ps3's settings.

Also, im sure WiiU will be use the same component/composite cable slot, so theres still a chance you can still use the hdmikey on it, in case it doesn't make Wii games look better.

Oh, and i meant to try Hdmikey with gamecube games, im going to test that now

There is no need for me to look for a youtube video, I have the latest build of Dolphin installed on my PC, that's why I consider myself spoiled ! When I look at the real Wii now.........blah....
But unfortunately, on my PC at least, Dolphin still can't do 100% on every game.

Sweet that you'll try that with GC games. A lot of those have an option for progressive scan, that should make the games look even better.
Thanks for testing it out for us and being so helpful, but I guess in order to judge it....I should probably test it myself and see how I like it, pretty much the same way when I go shopping for shoes......gotta try them on first !
Cheers.

Gamecube games with Progressive scan work perfect. I just tried Smash bros melee. it'll switch to 480i then when the progressive scan screen comes up, just click yes and it'll go back to 1080p. Melee looks great.

i'd say if you have the emulator, theres no need for hdmikey. But then again like you said, dolphin doesn't work 100% with all games.

thats the best way i can describe it. PPL think the emulator vids on youtube look, flawless, but they're watching it on a small media player. Its like watching a 1080p vid on a handheld in max resolution.

Fullscreen, it on play it yourself fullscreen and it will look different.

Also dont forget, playing on console, you are playing it from a distance

Gambia, The
best way to see the difference is:

make screenshots of some games
open them in a reasonably good image editor (eg gimp not paint)
upscale them to 1920*1080

thats exactly what the device does (possibly with anothe scaling algo but you can try different ones)
