Hacking Having trouble updating my kernal EZ4

I put the .bin file in my root directory but when I hold in R I just get a white screen. I remember updating the kernal when I first got the card but I had to boot into gba mode or some such. Am I doing something wrong?

Try booting into GBA mode while holding R.

okay try getting another kernel and when are you holding the r button at the warning screen or after

hold R when booting into GBA mode, preferably without your passcard
