Hacking Harddrive works on Wii but not on vWii

So, my harddrive doesn't work on nintendont (USB FAT device could not be opened) or Usbloader on my vWii. Normally I'd just format it again and see if it works, but it already works perfectly on my original Wii and there are a lot of Wii and GC Games on it.

Are there any differences between them I don't know about? As far as I know this should be possible?

Yes. Just make sure the data plug is in the top rear USB port, doesn't matter where the power plug is connected.

It doesn't even need to be in the Wii U.

I thought so too, but the other day someone posted that they plugged the power end of the Y-cable into an AC adapter and it fried their Wii U.
