@UniqueGeek I agree with parts of your post. Rather than brick maybe an error message like Nintendo throws. But the bricks got everyone's attention. So for like $20-30 less (everyone likes to save money) a $200+ investment was lost. Paying less for products sometimes has consequences. We have all tried to save money on something and got burned. Get burned lesson learned. Grow from it not wallow over it.

Gateway shouldn't even put the brick code in the first place. And the thing I don't get is the damn drm. That's just wrong for paid piracy
Oh, yes, they shouldn't have and are guilty. But while the clones are much more guilty, everyone's like "brickway this" and "brickway that", not evening mentioning the clones.

Because the clones aren't "more guilty". Gateway is a device for stealing software. They're a crappy company to start with. Someone stole from them (Much like they do...), and their response is to brick an end users 3DS. Not the clone card, the person's actual 3DS. That's a terrible way of doing things.

Regardless, this thread is about Gateway's pending (Read: SOON™) release. Really need to stop getting off-topic with all of this.

So clones take the shortcut to maximize profits taking GW market. Allowing that to happen moral or not is a bad business plan. They didn't need to brick user's 3DS I agree, but the cat was out of the bag and the DSTwo+ user's still took the chance. Sometimes blame lies in all parties. Greedy company, cheap consumer. Not a match made in heaven when the clone companies staked their claim at the user expense. They said take it up with Gateway they wrote the code not our problem. Blame enough to go around.

We all have opinions about the bricking thing but that is in the past. Opinions are just something people can embrace or trash. We've had threads about the bricking incidents, this thread is not for that.
Gateway users who are happy about the new announcement don't care about shitty opinions like that. So let's all move on from posting cfw stuff here because it is not for that. There are so many threads about the new cfws available and yet you guys are here for some reason, blaming Gateway for what they did a long time ago.

Not necessarily. You can use Gateway to back up all of your legit store bought games, you don't have to pirate.

I think if bricking is happening, it's because of poorly made clone carts, not because of a brick code. If Gateway could detect when a clone cart is being used, they would have an error pop up when you try to boot to emunand telling you to insert a Gateway card, and spam their website. They can't sell their flash cart to someone without a working console.

You realize their 100% was brick code and to top it off it wasn't some normal easy to fix brick, if I'm not mistaken it filled your nand with zeros...or something really bad like that

What? Hackers have already disassembled the brick code and figured out exactly what is causing the bricks. It's there.

Who confirmed this? It doesn't make sense, if they could detect a clone cart why wouldn't they use that as an opportunity to make a sale? They can't sell their flash cart to a user with a bricked console.

the brick code was more guerilla warfare, they knew poncy little "please buy a genuine card" wouldn't do jack to stop people buying clones, it would just lead to slight delays as clones strip out the message or do simple hex edits to make it say something other than " this is a clone" and say something else like "loading super duper R4 exclusive software", the brick code did exactly what they wanted it to do which was to make people loose faith in the clones and word of brick code spreads much faster and wilder than " OMG GUYS LOOK OUT THE R4 CARD SAYS YOU BOUGHT A FAKE CARD"................how long for a fix :creep::creep::creep::creep::creep:

from a shady business perspective the move was pretty much successful, the only fail was their flawed diagnostics check that lead to genuine GW users being bricked, but as of today afaik every genuine gateway user who sent their console off have received at least something back, even the guy who's console went missing eventually received 2 gateway cards as compensation, sure it was a crappy deal but as we genuinely don't know what truly happened there at least he received something he could resell to recover the majority of his losses.....more than can be said for all the other clone card teams

and the very fact that everyone knows gateway will brick people if they are messed with kept cloners at bay all the way up until DSTWO+ which suffered the same fate, yet even though everyone in the scene knew gateways rep when it came to people cloning supercard did it anyway, and still people acted like "awww poor supercard, how could they possibly have know that would happen gateway are meanies".....seriously:rolleyes:

So besides R4i 3ds, what other company was stupid enough to clone the GW code? You have to hand it to GW, their method worked, they have managed to retain their "advantage" over everyone else by using their method of protection. The market never got flooded with competitor "clones".

GW cards are snatched up immediately when people sell their old ones who move to some other solution, and the retail pricing has managed to stay pretty much the same for years now. So I would assume demand is still high for GW, given that their the only ones with their type of solution.

It would stop people from using clones it prevented them from booting emunand. And if they can edit something like that out of Gateway's code, why couldn't they also edit out the supposed brick code that some hackers found? None of this makes any sense at all.

right basically gateway embedded the brick code to be basically intrinsically linked to their FW, you cant just hack it out without screwing up a whole bunch of other stuff, now seeing as the clones didnt seem capable of much more than editing strings to say R4 but not really knowing exactly what the FW itself was doing (think of it like saying "why dont you make your own game rather than a rom hack" simple answer is they dont really know what they are doing, now initially the anti-clone code was essentially what you described, if it detected a clone card it caused poor boot rates and for your saves to be randomly wiped, and the answer from clones is "back up your saves regularly and we will keep potshots until we bypass it", and everyone just carried on doing what they were doing, nobody had much to fear as long as they backup their saves regularly, if you read back over some of the threads at the time the general reaction from clone users was "trololo ha ha i get all da GW features and saved $10 and gateway can't do s*)t about it, i don't care if it takes R4 a few goes to fix it", it wasn't until the brick code that peoples opinions shifted from meh i don't care if im using a clone to "crap im not gonna get any more features all for the sake of $10" and lots of people actually did switch to gateway and tried to offload the clones onto uninformed members

the brick code was never designed to just brick everyone, it was basically guerrilla warfare, random sporadic bricks that left everyone trying to guess as to what happened for weeks, with some calling BS, others claiming it was nintendo, it wasn't until dev's stepped up and exposed the brick code, but by that point the damage was done, nobody would touch the clones, and gateway came out of it all looking like a bit of a twat, but a twat that had all the keys to the castle (at the time)

EDIT: sorry for the history lesson folks XD i guess thats enough on that subject hopefully everyone now understands how and why the brick code happened and can get over it, sure gateway did something shitty once, but they have also contributed a lot of stuff to the scene too, some people just like to try use the one thing to try make out as if they have only ever done bad

lol you would think so by the way some people go on constantly about it, but afaik from about February 2014 there has been no gateway users bricked and only a few dstwo+ users bricked around January this year (i only seen about 3 dstwo+ users claiming to be bricked and one of those actually supplied fake images iirc from google, so he may have been trolling for whatever reason)

I don't know why people always talk about the past if you talk about the past would be stuck on it please look forward on the future
and thanks God the Gateway team said May 22 not soon

Bunch of noobs thats all it is.

edit: In all honesty, I see more people getting concerns being bricked when performing any downgrade that is outside of GW, more with CFW, A9LH installations. I say this by observing the many posts that have been coming up since the beginning of this yr. Its obvious that these idiots just need to shut up and focuse on helping these guys get there consoles up and going.
