Hacking Guide to installing + uninstalling YSmenu on the R4

hey, i have a r4 upgrade revolution or r4 iii.think its the same.lol.but i tried this technique and it doesnt work.i just get a black screen saying loading.i jus got this mod chip and i tried to play gta chinatown wars but it wont work so i investigated and supposedly i have to get ysmenu to make all new games work.can sum1 reply to this????what are my options?does anybody have a r4 iii?was it possible???thanx guys.

Honestly, at this day & age, it would be better just to get an acekard. R4 is slowing losing even user support. I personally give it a year before it's completely unsupported by anyone.

Open them both up in mspaint and resave them as 24-bit .bmp and it should work then.

Hey, i'm having trouble putting moonshell on my original R4.
I followed this guide and YSMenu is running 100%
Although, i tried to put moonshell on it (v2.10) and every time i started the moonshl.nds file, YSMenu froze and does not continue operation.

Any solutions?

OMG thanks!!! it looks A LOT better than before.

oh and another question, does soft reset work on YSMenu? I've tried it a couple of and all that comes up is a little MicroSD card that says "loading". Then it appearantly freezes. >.

No, it doesn't. The soft-reset code is tied to the dstt flashcard and will only work on that.

When I go to download YSMenu from the website, nothing happens. It just loads the same page and no download prompt or anything similar appears. Anyone know what's wrong?

I just tried this guide and ended up with just a blank screen with "loading" with big white letters. As far as I know I've got an original R4, although it may be a clone for all I know.

To check that possibility I re-did the decryption of the DAT file following your clone instructions, but it still only gives me the loading screen.

Edit, after checking the web address on the card I've confirmed that it is indeed a clone: R4DS SDHC

I've made this section due to some common questions... This section will be ever growing.

Q. Games start loading but then the loading bar freezes. What's up?
A. It's a simple solution. Reformat you sd card with this tool. Be sure to back everything up!

Q. Games take forever to load!
A. Yes, certain games take forever to load. You can fix this by downloading the latest infolib.dat file from here. Be sure to show denieru7 some love!

Q. Where can I get the latest cheats?
A. At http://cheats.gbatemp.net/ and make sure you download the appropriate file for your flashcard. If it is the original r4, choose cheat.dat. If it is a r4 clone, choose usrcheat.dat. (I explain cheats thoroughly at the end of my second guide)

Q. Can I play Mario & Luigi: Bower's Inside Story, Pokemon Heart Gold & Soul Silver, and other problematic games?
A. Yes, with the newest update to the dstt kernal, you can. You shouldn't have problems with any nds game at the moment. (original r4 only)


Q. The backgrounds for YSMenu aren't working!
A. Open them up in paint and save them as a 24-bit bitmap (.bmp) file and it should work.

Q. What if all else fails?
A. Honestly, get an Acekard. Big bang for your buck or euro or whatever.

Can anyone with the DSTT Kernel for R4 please confirm this to be true for HG/SS? Are there no more freezes?

Same for me, except I know for a fact that mine is a legit R4.

R4YSauto worked.

Quick QuestionHard error i think and i follow steps)
Are you suposed to have a 0 mb Menu.dat file?(and/or use the r4 crypt?)
Because if your suposed to, i'd now think im a idiot

(What happens if you use your old firmware's menu.dat file?)
