Hi ALL!!
This guide is brillant! I had a wii 4.1e virgin (LEH17...)
I followed all steps on the guide and now my wii is softmod.

I had to install bootmii as an IOS. no problem..
did a nand! no problem.. (i used power, reset and eject buttons from the wii, so no need of gamecube controler!!!)

everything is running fine!

thanx.-.

When I try to install Neo Gamma with the WAD manager I get the following error message:
Installing ticket... ERROR ret 2011
Do I need to do the IOS36 patch first?

Also can the WAD manager install 'backup' WiiWare titles?

if i installed bootmii as an ios by mistake the first time i think i can make it as boot2 how would i go about fixing this remove boot mii and reinstall ? and if i do that would i need another back up of my nand afterwards ?

I am a newbie here so bare with me.. I followed your directions and when I tried to install the cios installer it came up with this... mounting sd card ...ok
reading "ios38-64-v3610.wad ", please wait....... ERROR (ret = -1)
Ive tried everything and went over your steps several times, (short of picking up the wii and launching it threw the window after I soak it in gasoline and light it wich I dont think would fix the problem lol) Ive tried everything.. new sd card started over many times... mabe Im blind and missed something..well obviously but any help would be great...
youll prob ask how I put it on my sd card extrected it remaned installer.dol to boot.dol
and put installer folder in apps... thanks....

hey, first of all great guide! i followed everything to the dot, and nothing went wrong.
however, it is post-mod that i'm having a little bit of trouble with,

whenever i tried to insert a dvd-r and run with neogamma it always gives me an 'dvd read error 1101'
ive tried using verbatim dvd-r, and maxell and burnt about 3 different copies at 4x, but to no avail. i've also tried running neogamma r6, but that doesn't work either, so i was wondering if there is another solution?

Also can the WAD manager install 'backup' WiiWare titles? You shouldn't need it, but it doesn't hurt. You have your wads in a folder called wad? Try to get the wad again, and make sure you put it in the right folder.

Having it as boot2 + IOS is wonderful. Just go through the hackmii installer again and install as boot2 like normal.

Ok so you have the cIOS installer like this" SD/apps/cIOS/boot.dol right?
I didn't see any mention of a wad. You need to download the wad it's looking for and put it on the root of your SD card. Or if your wii has an internet connection, you can do the network install and not have to worry about the wad.

You have cIOS installed? Putting the disk in right-side-up?

IOS 60 is just what PreLoader uses.. Just install PreLoader and that's it.

The wad I have linked is just a channel.

Excellent guide. I got stuck today softmodding a 3.4u wii wondering why I can't install cIOS rev14. I figured it out from this guide - using Trucha Bug Restorer.

Thanks for your effort in writing a guide.

the NUS downloader , is this what I'm supposed to be using to go from 3.1U to 4.1U ?
Not unless you absolutely have to..
Use Nintendo update if possible, or Wanin's update in the link posted in guide.

where's that? I must be blind or something cause I can't seem to find it.

don't I need to patch IOS36 first?
the tutorial says to get trucha bug restorer, and when I go to HOW TO USE : trucha bug restorer it says to get NUS downloader.

my wii doesn't have a wifi connection , and the tut says I have to create them and the link sends me to the trucha bur restorer page where it tells me I need the NUS downloader.

so , am I on the right track or am I out to lunch?

I'm kinda cross referencing your tutorial with the Simplistic mod by xzxero

Nintendo update? Or the link? Nintendo update is on your Wii. The upgrade link is at the top of the guide before any of the steps. But if you have a network connection, definitely do Nintendo update. It's much easier.

don't I need to patch IOS36 first?
No.. that's why updating is before the guide.

Yeah? Not really sure what your question is here.. the guide I linked to for making the wads is really simple to follow

my wii doesn't have a wifi connection , and the tut says I have to create them and the link sends me to the trucha bur restorer page where it tells me I need the NUS downloader.
NUS Downloader is a PC app.

so , am I on the right track or am I out to lunch?
You'll get there eventually.

Try not to mix and match steps unless you really know what you're doing. xzxero's guide is good too, but they're both written independently from each other-- so they aren't really designed to correspond to anything in the other guide. Not to say some steps aren't similar, but just make sure you know what you're doing.

I was looking for the link to Waninkoko's 4.1 FW updater but I found that.

I was cross referencing them to see which steps were the same.

some of the stuff he (xzxero) does has screenshots , which makes it easier to see if I've got the steps right.

ok, I think I'm going to try to stick to your guide.
right now I've got homebrew and bootmii installed and I've done a NAND backup.

so , next step is to go straight to 4.1U from 3.1U , right?
then I patch ISO36? and this is where I use TBR?

@ Deviyl

Have a question for you...

Can you explain exactly why a Wii boot2v4 bricks if a downgrade is tried? Have to do something with the ticket of the IOS? Since from what i've understood for example Trucha Bug Restore gets you a downgraded IOS15 v257 but leaves the ticket of the IOS15 v266 to do it safely...i mean, is there a tecnical reason for the brick, or simply the Wii is programmed to "Auto-brick" when a downgrade is tried?

Thanks

First, apologies for not bothering to read through this thread for similar answers first etc. I will go through them all at the weekend if someone cannot help me out sooner.

Problem: I am getting a black screen when trying to view the homebrew channel..

What I did:
- I was running 3.3E with HBC/DVDx/IOS36rev14 already installed

Started going through this tutorial:
- Installed Bootmii as boot2 (didnt install HBC/DVDx as I already have latest versions installed)
- No problem so far.
- Restarted, and went through the steps of Backing up your NAND
- Had a few (about 6) bad blocks and copied the nand.bin file to my pc
- Decided to go through the recommended guide to update to 4.1 (here)
- Ran Firmware Updater v4.1
- Error -1036 ...
- Looked at a few wii forums for error solutions and some mentioned running firmware updater 4.0 first..
- Ran Firmware Updater 4.0
- Error when installing Shopping Channel..
- Re-reading instructions.. I realise I prob didnt have enough free blocks (100free..) so deleted a few game saves etc.
- Restarted wii, selected homebrew channel and black screen..
- Tryed restoring nand backup and it said it was done with a different wii.. which it wasnt..

No problem with anything else, only homebrew channel.

Do I have to run TPhack again?

ThanksThere's a stubbed IOS with the new versions that don't work with older SMs. More or less, auto-brick on downgrade "feature".

Umm no. TP is outdated. Run a Nintendo update and start the guide from scratch. You can skip over the steps you have, but installing them again will ensure you have all the latest stuff.

Cheers for such a quick reply!!

Did the ninty update to 4.1, used bannerbomb/hackmii.

Selected Bootmii install = code dump
Restarted
Selected HBC/DVDx = Success
Restart
All working yes!!!

Just got to go through the rest of the guide!

Thanks alot for all your hard work & support!
