Hello,
I've got my friend's Wii here that is pretty hopelessly out of date- I think its been close to a year since it was updated. It is running cIOS 12 or 13 IIRC, and 4.0 or 4.1. And, of course, it is starting to lack the ability to play newer games (Galaxy 2, NSMB, etc).
What's the best way to get this updated to current IOS's? Should I install bootmii, back it up, and simply update through Nintendo and re-hack fresh? Or should I manually install the latest cIOS and a set of IOS's?

Any assistance would be appreciated. I know what I'm doing, but I'm a tad rusty and don't know what I need to grab.

Try modmii. it's in the stickies. If you know what you are doing it's very simple to use, if not just follow the guide it will create.

I believe the point of modmii is so people don't need to know what they are doing.
