Hacking Gba game (VC CIA through NSUI) looks bad, is it normal?

Bad in comparison to gameplay vids. In gameplay vids, the sharpness and the colors seem perfect

but colors are weirdly bright and ‘washed out’ (less saturation maybe) when on new 2DS xl.
Game is Aria of Sorrow btw

The color gamut of the LCDs used on 2DS and 3DS consoles is very bad and all over the place. That is the reason GBA games look so bad. You can try open_agb_firm which at least tries to correct this.

Not the case if you hace IPS pannels, looks less worse. Personally, I love the dark filter that can be applied in mGBA, it improves many of the GBA games taht have the washed out colors issue greatly.

I always saw people preferring vc cias over emulators as it was optimal, so I went with it, also because I had a ‘new’ 2DS which I hear runs gba games better. NSUI does have a darkening filter but I heard that it ruins the color palette idk

Do you start the title while holding select or start pressed? If not you should because then it'll boot up in pixel perfect resolution instead of stretched to fit. As for the colors, as above has been said the color gamut and color temperature of the 2DS screens are not identical to the OG hardware. Try running a patched version in mGBA and check if you like the colors then more. If so inject that patched rom instead of the original. Otherwise try the darkening filter, but since it's a filter it's not going to be as pretty as the patch that went over textures, sprites, and effects individually.
