Hacking Gateway save transfer question

So I'm most likely going to buy a n3ds this Friday, and I might buy MH4 also while gateway gets their n3ds release fixed up... Hopefully mh4 won't require an update from the e-shop to play online before the gateway release.

Anyways, back to my question. Would this work? Start the MH4 retail card on my 4.2 fw 3DS xl (in gateway classic mode) to start the save on the old encryption, then transfer the mh4 retail card save to gateway when the n3ds can actually use gateway. Then proceed to sell off my mh4 on ebay :).
