What if part of Gatebait's awesome marketing strategy is a tool to let everyone downgrade, which writes to the ARM9 as well to stop Users from continuing unless they use Gatewait?
So everybody using the downgrade will have to buy a Brickway by the SOON(tm) Team to continue after using the Downgrade tool, because their 3DS will be softlocked.

... hopefully I didn't just give them new Ideas and delayed their release even further...

P.S.: Feel free to hire me for devious Ideas and marketing Failway Team.

Would there be any way to port the OTP/A9LH or for someone to just make something extremely similar, using their program as a base?
What you are searching for is OTPHelper (see: Plailects guide or my sig). And I didn't need to use their (unreleased) tool as base, it will rather be the other way around.

Oh hey, I know you! You're freakin' awesome and I love your work.

Well, hopefully soon we'll have a way to fully automate Plailect's guide to get all of the scaredy cats who are overwhelmed (like me) to convert to A9LH. :shy:

Yeah OTPHelper is one of the greates Tool ive see for OTP.
My first OTP Dump on my o3ds was very ... exciting.
Downgrade to 2.1 without verifications, the Browser that flickers, counting to 10, hope that was enough time waited. ^^

OTPHelper is very ... slow in it's oneclick-function because of check Things trippel. But better carefull than bricking.

I hope the update will include (only) a payloader. Like the 3dsx Version, so i can stay with luma if i dont need *.3ds support.

In my opinion they can have the time that they need. Im happy with luma and Gateway will be a nice to have.

What people complain about most isn't the fact they're always late (even though that's already annoying). They mostly complain about the fact they make announcements then nothing happens. Like SOON(tm), Next few days(tm), May 22nd(tm), etc.

Gatewait not gonna release the new stuff because their sale plunged since A9LH came out. They just made the annoucement to clear up the stock then they closing their business.
But that would be stupid. As others said, if they want to stop working, they could just make their stuff open source then sell hardware only. Hardware that would work with all CFWs since that's the spirit of open-source. Just imagine how awesome "Luma [with GW!]" would be. A9LH support, GBA/DS support, whatever other things Luma has, and also .3ds support and cheats with the red cart.
And don't tell me "just buy a Sky and you have that" because that's not true at all. No modified 3ds support, no cheats, no convenient menu to choose the game, 270€ instead of 56€ (counting all the Skies I'd have to buy at each hardware update they make).

Then yeah, you'd risk more clones, but that's not worse than getting out of business.

Don't expect any wonders, GW can't do magic either...
  • EmuNAND slows down the process and is used for safety reasons. You could take it out out the equation, but that would be beyond foolish. EmuNAND allows to retroactively fix certain stuff (user errors, too), which would otherwise have lead to a full brick. Without EmuNAND, a ton of stuff leads to a full brick. Funfact: There was this one genius who posted "The fastest OTP guide evar!11!!!!1" on Reddit, which told users to do everything on SysNAND. Anyone who would have followed that guide would have had a 100% guarantee of a brick.
  • Multiple required reboots slow down the process and are absolutely required. A defined system state before downgrading to 2.1 is your best bet (starting from a known working version), and Nintendos FW updates are known to work better than any homebrew (GWs, too, read what I wrote above) updates (reboot 1 after SysNAND downgrade to 9.0, reboot 2 after EmuNAND update via Nintendo method). To even get access to your OTP, you need to boot into 2.1 (reboot 3). And, of course you want to get back to where you started after the process (reboot 4). Maybe one of the first two reboots could be taken out, but, again, foolish, and increasing brick risk at least tenfold.
  • Safety checks slow down the process, but would you really be rather taking a higher bricking risk than waiting for an additional ten minutes?
  • Added info: Plailects guide is long and somewhat overwhelming, right? Let me assure you, it has grown that way, from user feedback, from stuff that users typically do wrong, etc.... The way that guide is now is your absolute best bet that nothing will go wrong. Funfact: if we assumed you did nothing wrong, we could easily fit the whole guide onto one small page.
OTPHelpers N3DS 2.1 unbricking / reboot to 2.1 and all required checks for stuff you could have done wrong (three times, as you read, after each critical step, which might be overkill) is fully automatic via the One Click Setup. The safety checks make sure your system is in the correct state to be able to reboot into 2.1, also checking stuff like region, etc... OTPHelper helps greatly in streamlining the process on N3DS. Which reminds me of...
Next, exclusively for GW users, the Gateway A9LH Installer is a highly integrated GW menu app, that auto detects system and state of install, considerably simplifying the install procedure especially for the N3DS.

Tl;dr what you will get, in the best possible case - if you get it - will be exactly what everyone else already has, but with dragon graphics and in one download package (vs the multiple ones you have to download via Plailects guide). You will still have a somewhat neglegible bricking risk (because the 2.1 downgrade, especially on N3DS is not trivial), which will be as high (or: as low) as with the current means.
