Download correct downgrade file for your current 3DS firmware version.
Put Launcher.dat and downgrade file on your SD card.
Visit http://go.gateway-3ds.com
Choose downgrade option.
Done.

(you'll want to use the NAND backup option first though)

Man that stupid sd lock switch is bloody annoying! Especially with some card readers.

I sometimes even glue the lock to Open on certain occasions (My laptop's SD slot often closes the switch when inserting the SD card)

Haha, at the moment, I'm trying to install the CFW, but I have some problems with it.

I can boot into the CFW, however, after ~10 seconds, whenever I scroll over icons in the home screen, banners fail to load and doing anything besides scrolling causes a freeze, and of course, It fails to connect. I know my IP is correct as whenever I run run.bat, the WiFi light on the 3DS blinks.

The connection should work, I tried to ping the 3DS in CFW Server Mode (holding L while boot)

What are you trying to get done?

If you're looking to boot the gateway menu so you can backup your NAND, games or saves. You'll need to download the files for 3.0 ultra from the Gateway website. Inside the zip are 4 folders, ignore the blue card folder, ignore the save tool folder, inside the last folder is the launcher.dat this goes on the SD card inside your 3DS.

Put it back in your 3DS, turn it on and launch the Internet browser. Go to go.gateway-3ds.com and wait. The gateway menu should open momentarily.
If you need to load the menu up anytime again you'll need to hold down the L button.

If you're looking to downgrade I can't help you. But be warned, you'll lose all of you save games if you do.

So we CAN put the launcher.dat into the SD without formatting it?

Never mind. I'm at the Gateway Ultra menu via using the QR code. I don't want my console to be bricked my downgrading. Unless I have to first, backup my NAND

Haha yeah i've done that a few times.

Speaking of that, today I found the SD Card and there was a solution to fix it on youtube, you just tape the side where the lock was and it works for me. So now I don't have to buy another SD Card for when I buy gateway!

When I was 13 I was playing with an sd card lock and the switch fell out so it was locked forever lol

Now when ever I buy a new SD card I super glue the slider in the unlock position. I had one of those things fall in the carpet, and actually found it. Don't want to go thru that again.

I dont know which one US consoles get... but when its downgraded.. is that real 4.x or a fake? meaning.. lets say its 4.x...... can this go up to 9.4 from nintendo itself?.... not saying I would..but is it possible... also.. if I downgrade to 4.x... can I put in Super Smash Bros and up it to 8.1? All of this safely mind you... and then if I wanted 4.x again.. just downgrade again? is this possible?

Yes you can, I don't own any flashcard (Getting a gateway in a few weeks) and you can downgrade, I am on a 4.2 Firmware (In the US)

Exactly the same way as you do it with a flash card.

Copy the relevant files from the Gateway site to your SD, and launch the Gateway menu via the web exploit.

Make a backup of your NAND and keep it somewhere safe, then select downgrade from the Gateway menu.

Done.

What If I dont need my nand? why would I need it? this 3dsxl is new... its on 8.1... I can downgrade this... to 4.2.. and upgrade it 8.1 when I want to with Super Smash right?

Zidapi told you twice. Follow his instructions, make the nand backup. If it doesnt work somehow (it should work if you have a 3DS/XL, no 2DS or N3DS), you would use that NAND backup to restore the 3DS, with a hard mod.

Yes, but you can just make a NAND backup of your 9.2 NAND and flash it back whenever.
