Game Freak has been allegedly hacked, with source codes for Pokemon games reportedly leaked

International_Pokémon_logo.svg.png

It appears another "gigaleak" has gone down, involving Nintendo. According to sources online, it appears that Game Freak has been hacked, resulting in internal data from the company being leaked to the public. Those involved in the hacking community or those within general Pokemon related groups are claiming that while they will not be discussing or dissecting the specifics within the leak, it initially is being claimed that there is a total of 1TB of data.

This allegedly includes the source code for Pokemon Platinum, source codes for Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, beta builds of Pokemon Black and White 2, beta builds of Pokemon X and Y, and potential internal codenames for upcoming Pokemon projects. Within it are mentions of an online Pokemon game, a collaborative project between Game Freak and Studio ILCA, the potential code name of the Nintendo Switch 2 being "Ounce", and a project named Gaia, which may be the next generation of Pokemon titles.

Further details are slowly being posted on X, and as more becomes clear, we'll be sure to update this post with new information.

[UPDATE]

  • As some of the data from the gigaleak hints towards a "Gen 10" Pokemon game, industry insider NecroLipe claims that Pokemon Gaia will launch for both the Switch and its successor system.
  • Users on ResetEra claim that a playable build of Legends Z-A is included in the leak.
  • Ikkaku, Gaia-K, and Gaia-N are all codenames with Nintendo Switch product codes.
  • Synapse appears to be an "online multiplayer" game. This is the collab project with ILCA, who worked on BD/SP. One claim states that it's similar to an MMO, while another says it's closer to Splatoon.
  • Contrary to the claims of there being a version of Legends Z-A that is close to complete, the leaker has apparently said they don't wish to spoil the surprises of future unreleased games, so those will not be included in the leak.
  • The hack is the result of a phishing attempt on a Nintendo Dev Portal user.
  • Beta Gen 3 Pokemon sprites were leaked
  • Internal design documents for Gen 4 and Gen 5 were leaked.
  • An official map editor for Gen 4 is in the files.
  • Logo and boxart design from Game Freak were included.

Emulation isn't always legal, like driving isn't always legal.

"always" means there are no reason when it could be illegal and you accept that there are times it would be illegal.

Excluding a BIOS and keys doesn't mean that it's guaranteed to be legal either.

You can violate patent or DMCA laws (yuzu violated DMCA, no idea about patents).

Emulation isn't always illegal, but it's not a get out of jail free card.

It's kinda hard to obtain a dump of a switch game legally. Sony vs Connectix was made easier because you just put the real CD in your machine and there were no DMCA violations, as they didn't have DRM

No, I meant as in a download/footage of the files. Not a source that it exists or something.
Oh, there is a download for the files, but I can't share it here. It's not hard to find it, tho, since it's on a Pokémon-focused website, hint hint. If you DO go after them tho, make sure to protect your trafic so that you don't leave any digital fingerprints or get caught by trackers.

I do. If you're in dire situation to see some prototype action, people are uploading footage of the created ROMs using the compiled code. Othewise, just wait until the dust is settled. Then, you most likely will be able to find it out there without fear.

Okay, I'm just somewhat interested in beta games sometimes.

Wait, wouldn't Game Freak delete all of the leaked stuff?

Not really, since it's next to impossible to remove something from the internet. At the start, they'll most likely go after the responsables for the leak and people that are openly hosting them.

After a while, as long there's no sensitive data about the staff, they'll just let it go. That's how it has been when a leak happens. So much so that the TCRF is already starting to edit their Pokémon page to include content about the Teraleak.

People talk about the Gigaleak no problem today, but back then, you couldn't show anything about it or else Nintendo would come after your ass.

We finally found the reason on how the Game Freak leak happened. It appears that somebody who doesn't know security 101 left a copy of their GitLab config file lying around in a ci/cd runner, which contains secrets to access the admin account. They added 'chmod 777' permissions which allows anybody to set a file's permissions for reading, writing, and executing.

i find it wild the Typhlosion joke is STILL going, even though it's been debunked and it just turns out the lady was just a freak. I saw this one youtuber playing Crystal Advanced Redux, and he picked Totodile and I shit you not almost the entire comment section was about Typhlosion.

Becuase even with the "corrected translation", it doesn't change much if not makes it worse as it still has the girl getting drugged by the Typlosion with berries ends with her having Cyndaquil babies

haha, yeah I found them on some sketchy website, I'm fucking with them rn and having a lot of fun haha
Would a link be possible or would it be too dangerous? Either way, the word sketchy does not get my hopes up for virus-free...
