i've been using the "unstable" beta version and so far all the story text is in there (admittedly I only played for 20 mins). The program worked fine, retrieving the DB worked fine, and patching the ROM worked perfectly. Game plays great. I was just wondering if anyone knows how far the story has been translated so far, and if anyone (i know DFF is not translating currently) is still working on the story.
If not, I would like to go through and do google translation on it. However, I've found that the google translation button is not working properly. it is either not requesting the right page or is not parsing the results correctly. Are there plans to make this function work? It would be nice to have even the somewhat moderately understandable google translation as opposed to none at all.
i patched the game and it work perfectly but the game always freezes right after i got green mage ... am i using the older patch or it havent being fixed ? Im using a R4
did you patch the game using the editor or using the pre-built patch? it sounds like you are using the unstable version of the editor, I had the same crash with that.
Can you explain me where did you get this beta version with the translated script please?
And thanks to the people who works on this translation patch! You did a great job!
PS: sorry for my English, I'm French.

the beta version can be acquired by using the 0.6.8 version of the editor, which will provide you with the bits and pieces of the story that have been translated, as well as everything from the 0.2.4 patch. HOWEVER, you will get lots of freezes using this version so it is probably not a good idea.
Hey, thanks for the heads up.
I downloaded the 0.6.8 source and ran it with python and like you said, I see the story translated now. I'm up to the second mission and it's fantastic the amount of translation they put in for the story so far. Thanks, deufeufeu! I played until the 2nd battle and shut it down to rest. I've not had any crashes, but there is constant freezes that will last a second or two and then it's normal again.
Now my question for you is if you had a chance to compile the source code to an executable or are you just running the source code? This is my first time using Python and google has failed me on how to compile with python.
You don't. Python is an interpreted language. The only thing you can do is to pack the python interpreter along with the source codes and all dependencies. This can be done with py2exe. I'm using osx, so making this is painful and I don't think it's better than having people learning to run the source... But if you want you are free to make binary releases, just beware of the HaZeY troll that will hack your releases !

I'd be curious to know if you are able to continue playing with the rom patched w/ 0.6.8 without getting freezes at certain times during the game. i tried this to no avail, and am wondering if i did something different when i patched my rom. when you generated the rom, did you select to use all tables or just tables with translated text? or did you pick something else? just curious if there's a way to do it where you won't get the crashes.
see, my question is... when you clicked Generate Patched ROM, there should have been a checklist of what tables you wanted to include. I normally tell it to select all, but there is also the option to use only tables with translated text. What did you do there?
QUOTE said:As for what I did:
01. downloaded "0.6.8a, Unstable source, Latest dev version"
02. downloaded "Python v2.5+ for Windows"
03. downloaded "Python Imaging Library for Windows"
04. downloaded "wxPython Unicode for Windows"
05. I unzipped "0.6.8a, Unstable source, Latest dev version" to a temporary directory
06. I installed "Python v2.5+ for Windows", "Python Imaging Library for Windows", and "wxPython Unicode for Windows"
07. I moved the Final Fantasy Tactics A2 rom into the temporary directory and renamed it "ffa2.nds"
08. I started Python IDLE and opened up "main.py": File > Open...
09. This opened up a new window with the "main.py" code displayed
10. I then ran the code: Run > Run Module (make sure you configure your firewall to let the editor have internet access)
11. The FF Tactics A2 Editor window appeared
12. I clicked on "Fetch Server DB" button at the top
13. The "Fetch Server DB" dialog box appeared and I choose the "Select tables with translated text" (the editor will take a while to select the correct tables, be patient)
14. Once it has selected the correct tables, press "OK" and it will start to go fetch all the translated tables.
15. After it finishes fetching the translated tables, I clicked on the button "Generate patched rom"
16. It will bring up the "Generate patched rom" dialog box
17. I clicked on the "Select tables with translated text" (the editor will take a while to select the correct tables, be patient)
18. I then clicked "OK" and it patched the rom.
19. Before quiting the program, I clicked on "Save local DB" so as to save all the fetched tables.
