FFIV is probably the best of the entire series, with FFVI being just a tiny tiny tiny bit behind in 2nd

I really liked 7 as well, but IV was a much better game.

Yeah, I can't wait. FF2 was almost my favorite back in the SNES days...defiantly my favorite until 3 came out...but then Earthbound came out and FF was dethroned

Still amazing, can't wait for a REMAKE OF IT. Now, if square gives the same treatment to 6...there may be hope for 7 yet

Dawn of Souls 1/2, it was so boring, had so little story, and felt like they just threw you out into the wild >_>

Because in real life you get told where to go every second of your life. You need to talk to more people than just a "Quest Giver". All the NPCs have something to say, most of the time. Final Fantasy I was a masterpiece with great bosses, great dungeons (Marsh Cave = Win) and great music. It's a real shame it's so underappreciated.

Protip: Walk North, Talk to King, Start Quest.

I still don't think that IX gets the credit it deserves.

it's fun

I didn't really like some of the characters, but overall, I had a lot of fun with it

I'd still put it below, 4,6,7 and probably below 1 and 3

well, maybe not 3

FF9 was a rehash of previous FF games, almost every plot element or character had been done before (rebellious princess, "good" empire gone bad, crazy scientific experimental baddie bent on world destruction, etc etc). The gameplay was pretty much a clone of FF6 with some innovation, but not nearly enough.

Which was Sakaguchi's intention, but basically there was nothing original at all about ff9. It's still a good game in many ways, but I think FF10 was a better game because they showed some daring to do new things again. Not that new things is a good thing always, FF8 can show that. You can't hold FF above other genres, if companies essentially release the same game again they will get slammed for it, Square is not an exception.

There's also another sequel called FFIV: The After. It's a sequel to FFIV(duh) and the main character is Cecil's (Main Character of FFIV) son.
And IIRC it's only on cell phones, In japan.

Oh and about dawn of souls, I played that and it was fine, Of course it was practically my first real RPG, only RPG before that (If even that) was Mario & luigi super star saga.

But it wasn't that bad, And if you're talking about that battles being slow, That's the best type IMO, turnbased RPGs are the feces for me.

The Sphere Grid was daunting in FFX - also the difficulty was way too high unless you spent months levelling up.

FFVIII - I levelled up to 100 - and got battered by
Edea
Never played that game again.

I beat the game with minimal grind. Using the monsters in Zanarkand (sp?) I got to the end of the sphere grids for the main characters I was using and beat Yunalesca, then did most of the sidequests (minus ultimate weapons, I've always seen them as a waste of time) then went on to beat Sin.

see, and I thought the charm of FF9 was all of the nods to the previous games, and the way they essentially paid homage to all that had come before.

here's a good one tho

FFIV vs DQIV

I've completed (EVERYTHING) all FF's except X, VIII, XI
XI - I never played because of it's genre (MMORPG)

My favorite too complete was VI and IX

FFIV by far - although I only played the Nes version of DQIV - didn't like the open, search, talk, door commands.

I've never played a Final Fantasy game I didn't like. That said, I never finished 8 cause it just bored me on about the 3rd or 4th disk and I put it down never to pick up. Same for the original IV, although it wasn't so much boredom, I just made it to the gnomes (or was it dwarves) underworld kingdom and quit playing it to play something else and never made it back. The tactical one that came out last December using the XII characters was fun, but not fun enough to make it more than maybe 10 hours into. Crystal Chronicles - pass. Kiddie Chocobo-fucker and whatnot - pass. X-2 - pass. Never played XI and never finished IX (although I loved what I played of it) and haven't played V or VI yet, but I have managed to beat for the first time ever most notably among others: Star Ocean, Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest VI, Earthbound, and Valkyrie Profile over the last couple years, so V, VI and IX are on my list, - still it's just easy to overlook them with all the other great retro-titles I play when I have time and playing new games on all the sytems and being an adult with a full-time plus job.

So yeah other than that my initial sentence holds

Looking forward to this one! I couldn't quite beat FFT:A2 in time though, only about 30 hours in. I think I spent just over 100 hours on the first DS FFT title. Neither can live up to the orignal or some of the great Tactics Ogre classics IMO.

Hmmm, well if it were..

FFIV DS vs. DQ IV DS, I would have to say Dragon Quest IV wins, but not by much. Although they are both incredible and have the best graphic updates Ive seen in years, DQ IV DS just seems like such a fresh experience compared to its last remake. I had the same felling with FF IV, but it wasn't as strong as DQ. This is just in my case tough.

I remember the days when gba games were dumped days or even weeks before original release :/

doesnt happen often now
